Being punctual means having an attitude of timeliness. The modern gentleman is aware that his most essential commodity is time. He understands that once he spends it, it can never be recovered, only rewarded. He therefore, knows how to deploy it so that he gets the best returns.
As a modern gentleman, you should be more time conscious. You mustn't waste your time, much less someone else's. When you have to show up, be there at the expected time. Lateness is a sign of sloppiness & unprofessionalism. People will be hesitant to trust you with their business, because you simply cannot be trusted with time. Being punctual is an unequivocal gentlemanly grace. It says a lot that you are business conscious, & that you value your time, as well as the time of those whom you wish to share it with.
So if you are one of those "African man time" people; time to shape up!
I lost a lot of business in the past, when punctuality was still an issue for me. I could never keep to time even if my life depended on it. (I'm sure a lot of you who knew me back then would have your fill of laughs😂) It affected my performance in business, & I wasn't happy about it. So I shaped up.
If you are like who I uses to be, here are tips to help you be more punctual.
1. Set reminders of coming events, meetings posted somewhere where it's visible at all times. Could even be an electronic reminder on your phone. Make sure your reminder prompts you with 30 mins (or more) time to spare before your actual ETA.
2. If you have to be somewhere by 9 o'clock, start making your journey by 8. Leaving an hour earlier gives allowance for travel time.
3. Early preparation does the trick. If you cultivate a habit of getting prepared earlier, you have the advantage of double checking yourself and ensuring everything is in place, contrary to having to leave in a rush.
4. Set your watch (or personal time piece) to be faster. This is my personal favorite! Since I was one of the worst patients of the African-man-time syndrome, this was my bail out. 👍😁 5. If however, you find yourself running late, please do call ahead of time & apologize profusely.
