When you’re gearing up to study when your classmates are getting notices to #scheduleforNCLEX; time to get serious about studying... #studyingfornclex #timetogetserious #labvalues

Even though I've graduated, I'm note done with reviewing and studying for NCLEX. Today is my first day in taking practice tests and remediating questions. I've learned pointers and some ways to help know what answers the NCLEX writers want. I'm totally nervous because this test determines my fate as a nurse and to see if I can get my license or not! I have 9 weeks to study before my scheduled date.

New study technique bc I got bored with typing and writing ✍️ notes on white paper 😬 #medsurg #studyingfornclex

Lena and I liked up a ton of smith mp classics in a day last Monday. We climbed a total of 13 pitches all over the park. Lena only forgot one shoe once during one of the walk offs. #smithrock #studyingfornclex #graduated #lena #lenaisiniceland #nursingschool #manypitches #employed #oldpictures

B) Achilles tendon
Testing for this can be done by doing a Thompson test. Having the patient lay prone (on their stomach). Squeeze their calf of the affected side (side of pain or other changes). Normally after squeezing the calf there should be plantar flexion (tippy toe) of the foot. If it's torn -this flexion won't happen. There is a black box with fluoroquinones that there is a potential for tendon rupture. There is increased risk for individuals >60yrs

C) Double the birth weight

Generally by 5-6 months babies have doubled their birth weight
By 1 year the normal is to triple the birth weight

It is important to understand every baby is different and that it is important to go to recommended checkups throughout the the year. #nclex #studyingfornclex #nurses #nursingschool #nursingstudent #medicalschool #pediatricnurse #pediatrician #nclexquestions #newnurse #babies

D) Ear drainage.
Ear drainage is not typically associated with Ménière’s.
Ménière’s is a disease of the inner ear which can cause vertigo, balance disturbance, nausea (from the vertigo), tinnitus, ear fullness, hearing loss. It is a chronic conditions that generally only affects one ear.

CORRECT ANSWER:
A) Haldol
Haldol is an older antipsychotics, which are often the most common cause of tardive dyskinesia. Newer antipsychotics are less like to cause TD (but still a risk). TD can also be caused by some anticholinergics, anti seizure, SSRIs, MAOIs, anti-parkinson meds.
Other answers:
B) Fluoxetine: SSRI are newer and less likely to cause TD
C) Risperdal is a newer antipsychotic, which are less likely to cause TD and some of the other side effects of older antipsychotics
D) Lithium: it is rare that lithium causes TD but it can.
Some meds that can cause TD:
Phenytoin (anti-seizure)
Metoclopramide (nausea-stomach)
Thorazine (older antipsychotic)
Levodopa (Anti-parkinsons)
Sertraline (SSRI)
Fluoxetine (SSRI)
Risperdal (atypical antipsychotic)

These are just a few examples above
