Page no. 007 from the 'Body Texts' photography series, 2015. (Excerpt).
'Body Texts' is a set of photographic selfportraits of the body covered with a text describing critical corporeal states. In this series I attempt to translate the body into the language of words and tackle this issue almost literally. I tried to explore boundaries and interaction between the body and language. Particular parts of my body in the pictures spoke through the writing, a medium foreign to bodily expression. While writing through the body, on the body, by the body, as the body, and not only about the body I tried to force language to name these fields of corporeality which escapes language in every day life. I tried to verify a glossary of terms describing the sick body. It proved to be exceptionally poor. And eventually there weren’t enough words.
On the other hand photographies present the violence of language towards corporeality, which, by simplifying its sensations, surrenders to the linguistic poverty in the difficult attempt of articulating experienced sensations. There is also the violence of the body towards itself – because it tries to fit into linguistic #boundaries, even though these boundaries are too tight for it. Gesture, the actual corporeal expression, is positioned in the #background, beyond the focus of a camera, or even outside of a photographic frame. It is just a blurry element of a corporeal expression, 'a body text', which is not fully legible.
