Artistes are always in the eye of the public. If one artiste dies, even if at old age, people ask that we pray against deaths whereas thousands have passed on in other professions unnoticed. When we belch it's over reported. Doctor's sleep with nurses, lawyers , governors etc, for any of our shortcomings, have more but we carry the burden of most societal ills.
For this same reason, ours is the most valuable. The most sensitive in the society. The society can tolerate bad doctors, we have a lot of them killing patients with wrong diagnosis. There are bad governors, bad lawyers, bad politicians, bad washerman, bad police, bad civil servants , bad mechanics, bad bankers, bad teachers, bad market women, bad farmers; but nobody can tolerate a bad artiste.
These same bad professionals want to watch good movies, see good artworks. They want to prescribe to us the kind of stories to tell, how to tell them and when to. We are the mirror in the sun. Whether broken or whole we reflect whatever we see.
We are the 'strong breed'. We bear the burden for societal purification. So little wonder they run their mouths (fresh or stale) on our matters...
