Hypertrophy is a very different ball game from strength. You focus on a higher rep scheme, typically 8-12 with a weight which is 55-70% of your max. And shorter rest intervals of no more than 60 seconds. Hypertrophy helps increase your endurance and muscle definition. I can't remember the last time I've done barbell curls. Really winded me out. But hey, great arm pump so I'm not complaining.
Today's workout:- Overhead press 6 sets at 60%, Barbell curls 7 sets at 55%, Preachers curls 6 sets, Plate carry 5 sets, Gunwalks 6 sets, Close grip bench press 5 sets at 60%, one arm deadlift holds 6 sets.

One big question I get asked all the time is when should I do cardio?

Firstly, cardio can be in any form. Not just jumping on a treadmill for 20 minutes, it could be boxing for 1hr it down to going for a walk with the dog.

The general rule I give to people is prioritise it specific to your goal.

If your goal is to run a marathon or some type of endurance competition, then cardio will be your priority to come first.

Likewise, if your goal is to get strong and get big then strength training is your priority.

If you are wondering when is it the best time to burn fat. It always comes down to a negative energy balance (calorie deficit) whether you do it before after strength training it won’t matter if your in a positive energy balance. You won’t lose fat if your still in a positive balance.

Overall cardio is very important for your cardiovascular system and overall health. So do it when you feel happiest doing it. Just don’t skip it 😜

So this was a little different, not frequently utilised by most lifters but the @fatgripz do have numerous benefits for pressing as well as arm training.

They strengthen wrists forearms/ grip - all buzzwords if you train heavy frequently.

They disipate force - benching all the time w/ normal bar can create elbow/wrist pain for some lifters. especially when you start using heavier weights. the fat bar takes some stress off of the hands/elbow/forearms.

Give them a go next time you train, feedback is welcome βœŒπŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ»

Ramadan extra class schedule.
Six additional 30 minute classes to help all of you out there during the month of fasting.
Introducing two new low intensity strength classes on Mondays and Thursdays at 11.30am, in addition to a few later evening classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8.30pm plus an extra functional fit at 7pm on Thursdays.
Classes are of course open to everyone but will run during Ramadan to accomodate for those who need it most.
