Lifting heavy, for example using a weight that you can only do 1 to 6 reps with, has made me battle the inner voice in my head — it’s far more crushing than any weight could ever be.

With heavy plates on the bar, there isn’t room for self-doubt or negative thoughts. It takes all of my focus to step up, to stay in control, and to crush the lift.

👊🏻Training with heavy weights is shown to improve your self-confidence. Weight training can also reduce anxiety, ease depression, and increase happiness. While it might be hard at times to get motivated to hit the gym, the benefits outlast the initial struggle.

🏋🏼‍♂️Resistance training using body weight and with free weights, strengthens more than just your muscles. It also strengthens your bones and connective tissues.

This exercise may not look like much let me tell you they are much harder then they look. This exercise is a strength focused movement. By stopping half way on the first half of the exercise you are activating your front delts as the primary and engaging a little bit of back. Moving into the top half of the exercise with this part you are still focusing on your front delts but involving more of the top half of your back engaging your traps, rhomboids and lats. This well help further prevent injury to your shoulders.

10 years ago, I ran into my first serious injury as an athlete where I tore 2 tendons in my left elbow and sprained my ankle from doing a twist.
Since then, I have re-torn that tendon twice and managed to partially tear a tendon in my other elbow. .

When I first got back into tumbling a few months, I was scared that my elbows wouldn't be able to handle it, but surprisingly I was wrong. Both elbows have been strong and I have only had to wear a brace for them once.
I didn't get any surgery on my tendons, and so my arms don't straighten all the way--which has kind of been an insecurity for me.

Part of my re-strengthening routine for my tendons has been handstands against the wall. I remember doing this last year, when I was 50lbs heavier, and my elbows could maybe hold it for 10 seconds before coming back down. I'm doing a bit better now 😁

No pain, no gain.... not really. It should be more like no discomfort no results.

You should not feel any pain when training. Pain is a safety mechanism in our bodies designed to let us know that something isn’t right and that you should probably stop what you’re doing that’s causing it.

What you should be looking for is discomfort. A feeling of “this really sucks but it doesn’t hurt”.

If you feel pain, you’re either;
1. not at the level required to perform the movement.
2. Don’t have the required mobility to perform the movement.
3. Have pre-existing injuries that are hindering your ability to perform the movement.

Yesterday’s post mentioned some of the distractions I’ve been dealing with

The main distraction has been being sick for over five weeks, dealing with something like this does affect the gym and has lead to me cutting the volume on my workouts lately
.
This was my second push workout of the week last week
.
1. 3 sets “1” bench block 5 reps 315
2. 3x8-10 decline bench (225)
3. 4x12 db upright row (40)
4. 4x10 machine shoulder press (90 ea)
5. 4x bodyweight dips till failure

Huge shoutout to @anabolicaliens for absolutely killing it in the gym and in his business. Never seen anyone with a work ethic so strong in and out of the gym. Ever since I started lifting with this alien my gains have been insane. Let keep it going, no limits!

No cheating today, abductors and adductors are well engaged to raise us up into bridge lifts aka at Wendy's Gentle Yoga as Spinal Waves.

We also practiced variations on Tadasana without props, then with blocks, with bands then both.

Leg strengthening was noticeable to all of us. My student with Parkinsons noticed a great benefit to her balance. We laughed as she mentioned we did next to nothing and I reminded her that we can't jump straight to the trapeze high wire. .

Special Olympian Isaac Bolton. Grinding out 4reps with 140 he'd already done 6 sets of 3 before this. Sometimes it's tuff to tell when a special needs athlete like Isaac is putting out the effort, sometimes he'll just go through the motions, like all of us. Today I feel like he put some work in.
