I'm HOME in Maryland for the weekend visiting my family. We participate in an annual Christmas parade every year & it truly warms my heart. It's pretty intense tbh - anything from designing the float, outfits & throwing out 50lbs of candy to kiddos. It's adorable af. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be an elf this year for it? 💥HOW TO MAKE ANY EXERCISE MORE CHALLENGING💥

🐅There are many different ways to increase the challenge of an exercise, and it doesn’t always have to be by increasing the weight used.
-
Here are just a few:
-
🐢Change the tempo: Changing the tempo (speed) at which you perform an exercise is a great way to add challenge. You can slow the eccentric phase of the lift ( when the muscle is lengthening ) or add a pause during the lift. Both gives you more time under tension = muscles working harder longer!
-
🦑Change the Rep Type: Instead of doing a “normal” rep (up/down, out/in, etc), change it up. Add a half (0.5) Rep or Change the rep Scheme to constant tension where you slow the rep down and do not rest at any point in the exercise. The movement is slow, constant and never stops
-
🐝Add Resistance: The most obvious choice - add some weight to a BW exercise or increase the weight that you are already using. You can also add a band. Adding a band above or below the knees adds resistance, and you can even play with adding a band around your wrists for some upper body/core movements as well.
-
⏱Time Yourself: If you are working in a timed set (as many rounds as possible in a certain amount of time), then increase that amount of time - go for longer periods of work. You can also decrease the amount of time you rest in between sets. ⬅️ Underutilized I think, but can have a huge effect.

🐴Whether you are doing BW exercises, weighted exercises or a mix of the two, there are plenty of ways you can up the challenge -
🦄If you are trying to lose fat and/or gain strength/muscle, upping the challenge will become necessary. Add one of these to your next workout and let me know how it goes 😊❤️

Several of you have asked me about tracking on vacation. Do I track my macros on vacay? No, I do not. I am mindful of what I eat, and don't stuff myself until I'm ill (yes, it's easy to do at an all inclusive resort). I make sure to eat veggies and a good amount of protein. I don't overdose on sugar and sweet treats at every meal, but I do enjoy myself. The way I see it, vacations are special times to really be present with your family/friends and to make lasting memories. Listen to your body. Be mindful of what you put into your body. But don't drive yourself crazy. Enjoy the vacation, and jump right back on track when you're home. Those are my thoughts, but you do you! 💁

Sometimes the #run just doesn't feel good. Yesterday, fatigue was high, combined with blistery cold and a deeply leaf covered #trail hiding a variety of tripping and ankle rolling opportunities...made for a tough workout. Pushed through though and got it done.

yesterday, i had one mission, make myself proud, & be better than i was yesterday- well, better than 6 weeks weeks ago at my first show- in this case lol. y’all, we did it!!! soooo proud to say miss dopeness here bringing home 2nd place in BOTH her classes! allll the feeeeeels!!! 😭
.
in total, over 30 weeks of pushing my body, my spirit, & my mind to its limits, & then some. in this time i can hands down say i faced some of my toughest challenges life has hit me with in a long time. moments where i couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel but somehow found it in myself to persist & stick to my prep.. i found solace in remaining committed to something I knew I had complete control over- my effort & focus. many mistakes were made, but so many lessons were learned.

it’s been so incredible to share this journey with you all. i’ve never known this level of vulnerability & authenticity to this magnitude in front of sooooo many 😅- but i have to say, i love it. it fuels me. in taking you guys along i found a whole new purpose for myself.. i never thought my little story could move touch & inspire. to know even one person was inspired see something through, to take a chance, to commit to themselves, it was all worth it. so many of you have shared your stories with me in this time, people I have never even met cheering for me & supporting me, people i never thought we’re paying attention popping up to wish me well. it’s beautiful & i’m so humbled. #dopenessallaroundme

WINTER WONDERLAND!!!! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!! 🎄☃️🎅🏼 My favorite time of the year.
❄️ I killed my glute/hamstring workout. Today I decided to do all different workouts I rarely ever do and damn did I shock my muscles 😂. Sometimes you have to go out of your comfort zone and get out of your same routine and change things up.

when you stop counting the days & start counting the hoursssss..! gahhhh guys!! t-minus less than 12 hours till show tiiiime! 😆🤗

so naturally, my first show, which crazy to think was only but 6 weeks ago, was roughhhh.. prep seriously kicked my ass, I felt like deathhhhh 89% of the time, & come show day- I didn’t entirely know what to expect, what I was doing, it didn’t help i was left hanging at 2 days out to fend for myself 😅🙄🤯 lol, & life had thrown some curve balls my way so I was dealing with a whole lot.. this time around, I not only have a better understanding of what to expect of show day, have a stronger support system behind me, & in the process i’ve gained a stronger confidence in myself & tougher mindset. it has prepared me to deal with life’s obstacles a little bit better. I know I can literally endure anything & WILL persevere if i apply myself & believe in myself. i’ve reaffirmed i am not a quitter, nor a disappointment. I’ve failed & gotten right back up. i’ve remained true to myself, my morals & to those around me.
if it’s one thing i know well, it’s hard work, & in the little bit of time we’ve had in between, ive sone just that. guys, im so confident that im bringing a muchhhh better more conditioned package this time around.. & for that, i’ve already made myself ridiculously proud, aaand the fact i’m not hanging on for dear life only adds to the incredible high i’m on! 😀🙌🏽 lol

this sport is all about persevere, mental toughness, & heart. it’s just another opportunity to challenge yourself to be better everyday, to go harder than you did the day before, the prep before. to push yourself to your limits & then push a little harder. to have the opportunity to showcase all of that hard work & sacrifice on stage is such an honor. to represent those that believe in me, support me & most importantly myself..

Sometimes you need someone to push you past your limits, someone to believe in you so much that you attempt things you didn’t think were possible. The people, the atmosphere and your thoughts truly have the power to make you better. It’s empowering to feel powerful. I’m finishing my back day with this phase with rack pulls. Rack pulls provide a great isometric overload to your back and also overload your hip extensors (glutes and hamstrings) in the top range. .

When performing rack pulls remember to brace your core and engage your lats. Think about extending your hips through the bar forcefully and stand tall at the top. .
