MY FIRST LOVE.

All I did as a kid was bodyboard.
It's something that I have loved and will always love until the day I die.

So it's been amazing to see my brother @hyperfreak_dk rise up to be one of the countries top dropknee riders. This weekend saw me train a group of talented and hungry riders in the form of the @ethekwinibodyboarding association.
With some BIG events coming up in the cape this year the guys have got to be ready to face the competition and the cold with everything they got.

For many years, clinicians have believed that the strength ratio between the hamstrings and quadriceps (H:Q Ratio) was a useful predictor of one's likelihood of sustaining various non-contact injuries including hamstring strains and ACL tears.

Two recent studies have pointed us in new directions and may have uncovered new findings that will lead to training program changes and decreased injury rates.
.
The first study, cited below, demonstrated that the traditional isokinetic test for determining the H:Q ratio was a weak predictor of determining the likelihood of hamstring injuries in 614 professional soccer players across their competition season.

The second study, stated that traditional testing has always been done when subjects are not fatigued. If we think about 'real-life' application, it probably makes good sense to test subjects while fatigued. So, they did just that. The authors reported that hamstring strength decreased dramatically and the H:Q ratio was decreased significantly at the end of the test. The authors pointed out that future prospective studies are needed to validate the H:Q fatigue ratio test in terms of predicting ACL and hamstring injuries.

As most will know, I battled disorded eating for a long year. It came on pretty suddenly due to an anxiety flare up. A "I don't want to leave the house" flare up. An "I am not worthy of love" flare up. An "I don't deserve to be happy" flare up. To be honest, I don't even remember the exact day it started but I do remember the why and that is something that I struggle with to this very present moment. Every person has a different WHY. Some may recognise it and some may not. However, it is NOT the same for everyone! When I was nearing the end of primary school, the thoughts in my head grew darker and I started thinking things that I wouldn't wish upon any person to think. I began googling things that I should have never had to google at that age, let alone in my entire lifetime. I was so scared and so lost and I was looking for ways to make things better. It was around this time when I fell into a bad relationship with food. It was my coping mechanism. It was my comfort; my security. I felt it gave me protection. My body was changing and alas, I began to grow hips and very miniscule chesticles ๐Ÿ˜…. I didn't like these changes because I didn't want to feel "womanly". I wanted to stay child-like and I didn't want to stand out. I didn't want to recieve attention from men and I felt like that was something I was attracting. So for a period of a few years this was my life as follows; wake up, go to school with no breakfast in my tummy and no food in my lunchbox, come home, have dinner, go to bed. This was routine. This was my standard day in the life. I don't know how I functioned at school looking back. I suppose my body got used to it. Anyway, years passed and when I went to boarding school in grade 11 I put on 10kgs over a period of probably 6months. This was the result of a combination of things; non-nutritious food, lack of exercise, depression, heartache, anxiety etc.. (CONT'D IN COMMENTS! ๐Ÿ‘‡)
