I sure as hell am not.

Let me see, I ate fish and chips Friday night.

I had a chocolate muffin yesterday.

And I had 3 beers tonight.

Definitely not perfect.

Do I feel bad or guilty?

No.
.
Once I would have.
.
And it took time, but I eventually learnt that it's definitely not about being perfect.

It's about showing up every and challenging your self in new ways.

One day at a time.
.
And making small lasting changes.
.
I promise you will have better, longer lasting success.

If you give you self a break some times.
.
Perfection is unattainable.
.
Despite what the internet shows you. .
You need to focus on you.
.
It's possible to enjoy life, and get to your goal weight.
.
It's possible to get strong and lean, and still have time for your family.
.
It just takes time. But you will be far happier along the way. Not to mention a ton happier with the end result.

When I get a new client I make sure to help them implement small consistent changes, over perfection every time.

You will get strong and fit enough to chase after your kids. Just don't lose the things you enjoy along the way.

Wotevaaaa....The dichotomy of life dictates that I will always need to give more though... More often than not athletes use mobility bands, stretching, or even chiropractic adjustments to “fix” whatever issues they may be having within a particular range of motion or at a specific joint.

Sometimes there are actual issues going on which may require treatment. Other times, it may just be a strength or lack of awareness the athlete needs to train in order to “fix” what compensation is actually occurring.

Just as my coach @serious_about_strength posted about and @jquintnmt talks about all the time, we should not be loading dysfunction. As this only creates more dysfunction and greater increase of injury through reinforcing patterns of compensation.

With @catwhited11 and some recent knee and lateral hip shift/rotation issues during certain movements, I’ve included some sets of @westsidebarbellofficial #atp belt-squat marching into her warm-up to promote traction of the hips and low back.

Once we gain some traction and activation of the hips, hamstrings, glutes, and core stabilizers, we can then increase our chances of training/grooving proper movement patterns. Therefore, allowing us to more effectively build capacity within specific ranges of motion.

Rob Golabek is from Buffalo, New York, where he obtained his degree in Communication from The University at Buffalo. Rob joins Westside Barbell as a Conjugate Club instructor after an impressive career as a Track & Field athlete. While attending the University at Buffalo, Rob was a four-time Division One All American and a 2012 Olympic Trials Finalist in Shot Put.
