Today's fact file Features Christopher Mandiangu an International Footballer who comes from the Democratic Republic of Congo 🇨🇩 and has represented Germany 🇩🇪 at U18 and U15 level and you can check our page on Facebook, to read the amazing story he shared with you earlier in the year.
If you were wondering why Christopher has two countries represented on his Fact file, like a lot of the athletes Christopher is a dual citizen, having been born in the DRC but having been brought up throughout his childhood in Germany. If you've read his remarkable story then you'll know that Christopher and his family did not leave the DRC by choice but instead had to flee as a result of a civil war and so became refugees in Germany as a safe place to live.
We often talk about what it's like to be an athlete and often having to live apart from family and friends while perhaps living in a foreign country in order to pursue a dream but we can't always understand exactly what it must be like as a child to not live with your own family in a place you can call home.
Although Christopher was fortunate to flee the war and not be separated from his immediate family he does know what its like to be torn away from almost all that you know as a child and to grow up in circumstances that given a choice no child would ever choose. ————————————————————
As a group of athletes all of our experiences are different but as group and a family we are constantly praying and believing for you to fulfil your dreams and for many of you your dream includes being a part of your own immediate family one day. ————————————————————
We're not exactly sure what that will look like for many of you, but one thing's for sure, we'll keep praying and believing that God who sees you and who we know has great plans for you, will one day grant you all the desires of your hearts.
