Sunrise over a Philippine strath. To get to the trailhead of Mt. Pinatubo, you have to traverse a long valley made of lahar, flows of volcanic ash and mud. During the rainy season, the Bucao River runs mighty through here, creating a murky, destructive torrent. During the dry season, as it is in February, the river runs shallow.
It's a strange landscape, this barren ash valley, since the hillsides lining the valley are still lush and tropical. This might be my favorite non-family shot of the trip. I love waterways going through valleys for reasons I cannot fully articulate. Glad I was able to see this one.
