I asked my Dad once "how come we don't have Churches in Aboriginal culture?" He told me we don't need a church. The earth is our mother and the spirits of our ancestors are always with us, you don't need to be in a church to connect with them. Our churches are wherever we are and wherever we sing and dance. Our songs and dances are the scriptures of our bible, they tell the stories of our creation and the history of our people. Even when we dance in front of crowds, in front of hundreds of people for an event, it's not the faces in the crowd we dance for. We sing and dance to pay our respects to our ancestors and the great spirits always. Everyone else is just bearing witness.
Looking at this photo and seeing the sincerity and strength that my brothers are dancing with (in front of the many people behind the camera man) gives me a special kind of pride ✊🏾 #thisisourculture #noonuccal #nunakal #straddiemob #yurra #yulluburriba #oodgeroo #aboriginalculture #tradition #aboriginal #indigenous #indigenousaustralia #dance
