The quiet, decadent serenity of moments like this... put me in a state of meditation and contemplation. Making images like this set me right in the world.

Trading in the bikini for a nursing bra and depends for now!
2 days postpartum looks differently for each of us and yet none of us has seen anything different other than the mom that returns to the washboard abs she had before she even got pregnant. Does that happen? Yes. Does a bunch of other scenarios also happen? Absolutely!
The problem with only showing ONE way is that when the rest of us don't experience that we feel we've done something wrong.
YOU DO YOU. Trust the body that has carried you this far and please SHARE how you're feeling with others. It's incredible what happens when we stop feeling the pressure to be ONE way and CELEBRATE the many ways we each travel through life. ❤️❤️❤️

No mother should ever have to feel ashamed for feeding her child. We were all concieved the same way, born the same way and for most fed the same way. How would you feel if your mother was put down or ridiculed for feeding you?

Dear Santa,

I don't know how to beat around the bush like grown ups, nor do I have an exposure in corporate to keep going in circle for hours without coming to the point. Jumping straight to my wishlist which is pretty simple - all I want from you is Gems, just the loads of them and each one in a different colour, even though I would call all of them bluuu. In return, I am learning "Jingle Bells", which I can recite when you drop them in my 20 little socks (planning to borrow bigger ones from mom n dad too). Please use GPS n check the weather forecast before leaving your home, I don't want you to get lost in the smog in Gurgaon n end up dropping my Gems to the wrong place.

Standing in solidarity with @gypsynspice today, who has been bombarded with some hateful and unimaginable comments on a picture of her breastfeeding 13 month old daughter Lilly at a restaurant table. It is a reminder of just how important and NECESSARY the #normalisebreastfeeding movement is. Especially in the context of older nurslings. The amount of people that believe feeding a baby past a year isn’t normal and even as far as disgusting and perverted is shocking! The amount of people that STILL believe women should cover themselves and their babies heads with blankets, leave the room or feed their babies in TOILETS is shocking. The only way this will change, and breastfeeding (covered or uncovered. Newborn or toddler) will be considered a standard part of life is if people see it everyday. And seeing as we spend a hell of a lot of our lives on social media these days, instagram is the ideal platform. This may spark anger and debates, but some of these debates may lead to people educating themselves on the benefits of extended breastfeeding. They may also lead to people questioning some of their ingrained opinions and beliefs about women’s bodies and why they really, truly feel uncomfortable seeing a breast nurturing a baby. So I’m calling out to all breastfeeding mamas, if you feel brave enough, please share this wonderful part of your life on your Instagram pages. We post pictures of our meals, our faces, our bodies, clothes, loved ones, pets, holidays, daily activities, and so many other lovely everyday occurrences. Breastfeeding should be seen as everyday too. #stopcensoringbreastfeeding .

💝🎄I want to make this December an unforgettable season for Shannon – by trying different fun activities every day, like arts and crafts. So this beautiful Christmas Advent Calendar was customized for us by @prettyurparty just for this purpose. I wrote some activities and ideas on the back of the cards, and Shannon’s assignment is to take one card every day, have me to read to her the assignment, and then – create together! In the end of the day, Shannon baby is showing her final “product” to her Dad, to receive his admiration and encouragement, and perhaps some Chocolate Egg. I was questioning the last part quite a lot, whether I am “commercializing” the art for her at such early age. But for now, she really enjoys the rewards both in terms of the praise, and the sweet prize too.
.
.
.

For our arts activities, I mix ready kits from @alex_toys (this is not sponsored guys), with unstructured painting activities, with crayons or finger paints that are safe for the baby. We use Crayola “my first finger paints” or Faber Castell, both have very bright very kids-safe colors. Many of you are asking me, how to make sure the baby does not eat or taste the colors. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️Most of babies do, it is perfectly normal. Just be patient, always supervise them during the arts activities, do not allow them (softly diverting their hand from the mouth to the paper) - and eventually they will understand that it is more fun to actually draw something. Also keep these activities short – attention span of the toddler is still only 5-10 min at best. They may try to draw for 1 min and then start eating the paint or messing around – it is a sign <see more in the comments 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻>

Motherhood portraits forever.
Can't you just feel the awe as she breathes her new babe in?

Tell your daughters
.
Tell your daughters how much you love your body.
Tell them how they must love theirs.
.

Tell them to be proud of every bit of themselves-
from their tiger stripes to the soft flesh of their thighs,
whether there is a little of them or a lot,
whether freckles cover their face or not,
whether their curves are plentiful or slim,
whether their hair is think, curly, straight, long or short.
.
Tell them they inherited
their ancestors’ soul in their smiles,
that their eyes carry countries
that breathed life into history,
that the swing of their hips
does not determine their destiny.
.
Tell them never to listen when bodies are critiqued.
Tell them every woman’s body is beautiful because every woman’s soul is unique. 💕 @nikita_gill

8yrs ago I watched this beautiful baby come earth side. I was honored with cutting his cord and holding him while his mom was being taken care of. Sam, I know it hasn’t always been easy but it’s such a privilege to call you my son and I love you with everything in me.

Mates.🍦 Don't be fooled though. I actually want to dangle him from the balcony today. 2 year olds can be absolute assholes.

💗 I drew this in my sketchbook during our fourth trimester. I still remember how raw we felt. Like two pieces of pulled apart cookie doughs that’s learning to reshape again. She was beautiful, but hungry and fussy. We’ve both worked day and night in search for each other’s rhythm & peace. It took me few months to make enough milk, but when this magic happened, we were in paradise. ✨ This was our favorite place. 💗

Today is my last official day of work!! I currently work in Early Childhood Education and as much as I love it I’m looking forward to a few weeks time out before I start on this epic journey of raising my own small humans full time. Not often a fan of slogans on clothing, however I really needed this top for my photo shoot with @ataahua_pinups - I think it fits well with my current journey. A fundamental truth 🌸 💫#rg @powertoprevail💫 It's not in our perfection that we can finally embrace our self love. It's in discovering that our self worth isn't tied to anything at all.

Let Nature be your Teacher – William Wordsworth

Truly said! There is so much mother earth has to offer that we just need to expose our little ones to the beauty of nature and all its magnificence. Unfortunately our high tech gadget dependent lives is keeping us more and more indoors. But introducing the love for outdoors at an early age will go a long way to have passion for trekking, backpacking and fun road trips!
.
.

Recently at a picnic, everyone admired K for watching the birds and flowers so intently. They all called K a nature lover. It made me realize that my daughter was more interested in all the beautiful flowers at the park, their vibrant colours, the birds on the trees and of course the 2 cats our friends had! She wasn’t bored for a minute during the 4 hour long outdoor picnic without a toy(yes I forgot to carry even a single thing that day)
.
.
🌺So how can we raise nature/outdoor loving kids?🌺
🍁 Get out and about – Its one of the best way to learn about weather and even seasons. Just dress them right and enjoy a discussion about the cold breeze or heavy rain.Never label the weather as “bad” instead explain benefits of weather- say rain helps harvest food for us, the sun after a rain helps to dry off water puddles.
🍁 Ditch the stroller the moment your toddler can walk. It may need more patience to walk with them but it turns them into strong hikers at younger age. I would any day prefer a baby carrier and put K on my back, if needed for when she wants a break.
🍁 Make a nature treasure. Kids love collecting stones, leaves shells etc. Create a small space where they can display and have a seasonal talk about why certain things are found based on a particular weather.
🍁 Our kids mimic us so make sure you have the right contribution when enjoying nature. Don’t show your disgust for frogs or fear of spiders. Let the kids’ value nature and discover it. Explain how spiders control the insect population instead.
🍁 Leave the gadgets aside. Sit back and watch as the trees move with the breeze and the sounds of birds and insects. Road trips are great way to enjoy changing landscapes and point out new interesting discoveries. More in comments 👇👇👇👇

“Each new year is a surprise to us. We find that we had virtually forgotten the note of each bird, and when we hear it again, it is remembered like a dream, reminding us of a previous state of existence…The voice of nature is always encouraging.” – Henry David Thoreau

Standing in solidarity with @gypsynspice who has been bombarded with hatred and negative comments after posting a picture of her breastfeeding her 13mo daughter at a restaurant table. It is a reminder of just how important and NECESSARY the #normalisebreastfeeding movement is. Especially in the context of older nurslings. (Reposting from @mamaclog who I know has also had her share of negative comments). When I had my daughter I had no idea about breastfeeding, the benefits, no opinion on how long I would do it for etc etc. But as the weeks, months went on I learnt such a lot about the benefits and really educated myself. I can't see any other way for me and my girl. I wish we lived in a country where people didn't judge others on their choice of parenting but we don't so I'm posting this as support for all of those mums nursing and feeling like they're doubting their choices. I think most of us breastfeeding older children have experienced the negative comments or looks at some point. Why should we feed in a toilet or be asked to leave somewhere! The science is there - it is good for them, mentally and physically, yes even at 21 months! So lets keep going and rise above. I hope one day breastfeeding in this country is not looked down on and that people don't even bat an eyelid. I'm sharing this wonderful stage of my life on here seeing as we spend so much time on social media. More of this will mean more backlash and negativity but also, hopefully, more people educating themselves! NEVER thought I would post this but there you go! I'm proud! #stopcensoringbreastfeeding

Today I am 1-3. I debated posting this for the exact reason why it’s a silent struggle. I don’t want I’m sorry or sympathy. I just don’t want to feel alone. And I know I’m not. This unfortunately isn’t my first loss. When I first found out I was pregnant I wanted to shout it from the rooftop but I know for reasons like this we have to wait. So because we don’t tell many, we have to suffer silently...and suffering silently was my thing in the past, but it’s not now. For the women out there who have miscarried in the past and need support and a place to grieve their little one lost or to those in the thick of it like me who are currently grieving and in pain, let us all be there for each other. You don’t need to feel alone and maybe that’s me talking to myself but if you need a place to share, I’m here for you...and all of us are (and guys too. We sometimes silence your voice because you feel bad to express how it’s made u feel so let this be a safe place for you too). And because I don’t have all the words to say because I’m knee deep in crying and trying to listen to God, my girlfriend @alittlebitfancy says them for me. But in her Words and her story on her loss. It’s powerful and strong and those who have suffered a loss I truly feel u can heal reading her blog. I know for me it helped. Head over to her page. Her link is in the bio and also in my bio.
I love you guys. #yourenotalone

✨This is the season for gifts! ✨🤗 Giving or receiving – both are fun! This is why it is SO great to have this new service in India – online gift registry @sciftshopping , with 35 brands for baby and mom – and more coming soon. 💝 This is so perfect for weddings, baby showers, birthdays or even Christmas and New Year! .
.
You can open your Registry and select the products that you really like and need !! Then share your Registry with friends and family (even on Social networks), so when they gift something to you, they can select from your choices 👩🏻‍💻. You can receive great and helpful gifts even from relatives in different locations, who maybe have never even met you in person.😜

Now really exciting thing – their brand selection. I added to my registry some toys from Brainsmith, PodSquad, activity / books box from Enchantico. Grateful we spent our last days as two like this 🙌🏼✨🌊

The most surprising challenge I've faced with becoming a mother has to do with the practical LOGISTICS of "managing" a baby. Going places, packing things, dressing the baby, making sure their body parts are the right temperature at all times, all that jazz. Nine months into it, I'd say I'm starting to get the hang of it, and have even discovered a few hacks to make things a little less arduous for Lora and myself. For example, since we're mostly at home, Lora just wears a full body playsuits/pyjamas with a zipper that can easily be changed/put on a wiggly baby with willpower like a lion. I've bought a whole bunch used. And when we're about to go somewhere, I add 30 minutes extra to my normal process of getting ready; it makes it a lot less stressful if things don't go according to plan. As you can see, it's winter in Sweden and so going out is quite the process lol. For those who are parents themselves, what challenges has surprised you mostly with having a child? It may be helpful for those with babies on the way, even though there'll always be surprises along the way.

This has me feeling all the feels. This project and movement are both so important to me and have helped shape me into a different person and mother. It’s made me question myself, my thoughts, my beliefs, and I’ve come out better on the other side. To see P’s little face staring up is beyond. This journey has been incredible. #4thtriproud #4thtrimesterbodyproject
Repost: @4thtribodies

Sharing our #bestnine2017 and I’m entirely okay with the fact that only one photograph I’ve take is amongst them. The fact that these nine images received the most engagement this year says so much about the strength, resolve, and mission of this community. Thank you all for joining me in this movement to normalize what is normal - our bodies, our families, our rights , and experiences all while working to shatter stigmas around aging, gender, loss, abortion, and so much more. We will continue to amplify the voices of women of color and those our society seeks to marginalize through our work and the surrounding dialogue. And we can do it all while sweating, crying, and maintaining a healthy sense of humor. Y’all are phenomenal. Cheers to another year.

This body of mine is incredible. Days where I feel at war with it moments like this restore my perspective. This body has carried my beautiful children, it has fed them for over 5 years through breastfeeding. I'm strong. I'm powerful. How then can I be so unkind this vessel which carries me? #bodypositive #motherhoodisbeautiful #normalizebreastfeeding #stopcensoringmotherhood

I always thought I’d be taking this photo of Dan with Amity for her first shower but since we brought home our little angel home Dans been bathing her due to me having a c section & the pain I have bending over, so tonight it was my time. In this moment I didn’t care about what people think about nipples, tattoos or over sharing. I just hope some day everyone can experience this amazing life changing experience #motherhood 💗

This is one of my favorite quotes. I always find myself drawn to it when thinking of birth and this work I’m so privileged to do. Like many birth workers I gravitated towards doula work after my own births and experiences with our maternity system. I left an acceptance to graduate school and years of pursing nursing behind to do it. It was a call I couldn’t let go unanswered. With each passing birth I’ve found that this fire that’s been ignited within me to support birthing people, to support women and families of color, to walk hand in hand with those courageous enough to take back their power as they journey to their place of healing... this fire only grows. What I didn’t quite expect, and perhaps the greatest gift - I realized yesterday, as I stood bedside and we shared a glance in between tears that began to pool. All this time I thought I was helping her find healing and really she was helping me.

This portrait is so important to capture during a birth- a mother soaking up her brand new babe, taking in his tiny characteristics, putting a face to the love she's known for the past few months.

The repost caption didn’t show up for some reason in my last post of this image... so I’m just going to start from scratch. Sorry about that @krista.evans.photography !! ❤️❤️❤️ #Repost @krista.evans.photography

Wow, just WOW! A double true umbilical knot!! This is RARE you guys!! A true knot presents in approximately 1.25% of births and this double true knot is even MORE rare, like REALLY rare! How amazing to witness!! This was my unicorn birth!! *disclaimer~baby was born completely healthy* If you love images like this and want to see educational birth images welcomed on social media, don't forget to hop over to @empoweredbirthproject and sign her petition!! #placentapower #birtheducation #ourbodiesareamazing #birthphotography #medtalks #cantstopwontstop #birthcommunity #stopcensoringmotherhood #birthbecomesher #birthwithoutfear #birthwithconfidence #birthwithcourage #stopcensoringmotherhood #empoweredbirthproject #carriagehousebirth #motherhoodrising #doula #midwife #homebirth #malachitemidwives #warrior #kelownabirthphotographer #vancouverbirthphotographer #placenta #whartonsjelly #umbilicalcord #trueknot

Validated after my account AND my photo were restored after review. Instagram doesn't have a second review process, so I've added a censor page as someone is apparently insulted by seeing this in their feed. #thisispostpartum #breastfeeding #strongwomen #stopcensoringmotherhood

@rupikaur_ always writes some pretty relatable poems, but this one hits home, especially with @empoweredbirthproject’s petition going on to allow images of birth to remain on instagram. Some people seem to think this isn’t an issue in need of attention - but while all you feminists out there are ranting about the patriarchy - you’re missing the most important part of it; The Beginning. Peace on earth begins at birth. If humans can’t love themselves and each other in the midst of the most important moments of their lives, aka while a baby is exiting their womb - how the hell do you expect anyone to fully respect women and what they’re capable of? Millions of stories and thousands of beautiful posts have been REMOVED by @instagram - ALL THAT KNOWLEDGE, SUPPORT, AND EMPOWERMENT was just *deleted* because people (women included!!!) are uncomfortable with the image of birth. There are hundreds of women commenting on these posts telling us that they’ve never seen a vaginal birth - even though they’ve had children. Learn up. Stay humble. Don’t forget where you came from. @stopcensoringmotherhood #stopcensoringmotherhood
Please remember if this post offends you, you’re following a future midwife/doula, and you can stop doing so at any time.

I took this a year ago. Exactly two days after my miscarriage. I escaped the house and hung out with a friend I tried to pretend I was fine and shrugged it off but felt the need to wear my #stopcensoringmotherhood t-shirt to quietly honor my reality. That loss was a bigger deal than I let on at first and it has deeply impacted me and my family. I decided to use that hurt and dig myself out of a hole I’d been struggling to admit existed. I’ve taken this last year to work on my mental health, I’ve been going to therapy regularly, I started a low dose medication to help with my anxiety and mild depression. I started this year resenting my body, it had grown two babies and fed several more so why couldn’t it do it again? Now I’m back to appreciating my body, improving how I nourish my body, and slowly started working out again. This has been one of my hardest years but I am so happy with the progress I’ve made. #4thtrimesterbodiesproject #fourthtrimesterbodiesproject #4thtrimester #fourthtrimester #postpartum #breastfeeding #childbirth #bodypositivity #stopcensoringmotherhood #motherhood #bodypositive #stretchmarks #4thtribodies #pregnancy #everybodyisbeautiful #feminism #feminist #selflove #bodylove #fourthtribodies #postpartumbody #ihadamiscarriage

Transition. This mama labors with such beauty and power, and her husband is the most dreamy support for her. His attention is intensely focused on only her. This was my second time to document the growth of their family and what an honor that is. ❤️
