Hundreds of protesters stand outside the St. Louis city jail on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, a day after police arrested more than 120 people. Protests began on Friday after former police officer Jason Stockley was found innocent in the 2011 fatal shooting of Anthony Lamar Smith. Even if you are about to unfollow me for being too political, please look up #anthonylamarsmith. #jasonstockley killed Smith after saying, "I'm going to kill this mfer" moments before shooting him. Only Stockley's DNA was found on the gun in Smith's car, both inside and out. Yet Stockley was acquitted by a #stlouis judge last Friday. The #stlprotests have been ongoing over the #stockleyverdict, and police have used highly questionable tactics against protesters. That's my spiel, now you can unfollow me. 😉
In case you haven't seen this, it's from the protest at the Galleria on Saturday. This woman was trying to stop the cop from choking her 13-year-old asthmatic grandson. This woman has been charged with a felony of assaulting a police officer. And keep in mind, neither the boy nor the grandma did ANYTHING violent or destructive whatsoever. They were there with a nonviolent protest in the mall. The cops did this mere SECONDS after an order to disperse that no one could even hear. They immediately became physically aggressive and hurt people. This is unacceptable. This was a POLICE RIOT. #blacklivesmatter#nojusticenopeace#stlverdict#galleria#stockleyverdict
Tonight we marched against #bluesilence. Covering our mouths with blue tape, we marched silently to the STL Police Headquarters downtown. Once there, Bruce and others spoke to the people about a few things, including: - highlighting two black officers who were recently abused by their white counterparts--one shot while off duty and one beaten while undercover - demanding for the resignation of Lt. Chief Colonel and firing of O'Toole amongst others - calling for "good officers" to speak up and out about the injustices and wrongdoings of local police - committing to not have an incident like the #galleria22 happen again. #TouchOneTouchAll - assuring we support the Ethical Society of Police so they know community stands with honesty and internal resisters - reminding us that this is a long-run fight - uplifting the moms of Anthony Lamar Smith and another young person named Isaiah who was killed by police 4 months ago.
