Did you know Steve Irwin wasn’t wearing sunscreen 🧴
If he was it would have protected him from the harmful rays 😳

Dolphins and stingrays 📷 by @ravean_aaron. “Today was surreal experience flying over and photographing the San Diego Coastline. I witnessed a northern stingray migration interlaced with Dolphins just off the coast of La Jolla.
Images like this don’t come from getting lucky, it comes from waking up at dawn every morning, shooting photos everyday, and pushing your limits. Today it all paid off!”

Shark or Ray? These beautiful animals are often mistaken for a shark but they are in fact a species of ray known as the Giant Shovelnose Ray (Glaucostegus typus). Sharks and Rays are very closely related - both have gills and are classed as a fish but they have a skeleton made entirely of cartilage instead of bone! Did you know not all rays have a barb on their tail? Giant Shovelnose Rays are one such species and use their size and sharky-like appearance to deter predators. They are totally harmless and don’t even have sharp teeth! Instead they have blunt plates of cartilage which help them get the flesh out of their favourite foods - like crabs 🦀
Unfortunately, over a quarter of all ray species are classified as endangered, vulnerable or threatened, including this beautiful species. Common threats are overfishing, marine debris and being used as leather or as “flake” for human consumption in fish and chip shops 😧
Help them out by avoiding these products and reducing plastic usage and meat consumption
