Little bottle bouquets.
It seems that purple flowers have the upper hand around here, at least in my pots. Usually around this time I would have buckets of blue hydrangeas, but I don’t have a single bloom. The frigid spring killed all the emerging buds. (I also had no lilacs or peonies.) Then the May rains drowned others, so the flowers we do have are definitely stunted this year. Thank goodness for stalwarts like Annabelle, oak leaf, and Peegee hydrangeas - all white. The Peegees have just started to bud out - they’re always late which can be a good thing up here. I can’t complain about such garden frustrations, though. A local flower farm lost 1500 of their dahlias in the May rains. Can you imagine? And they’re a young enterprise who just bought a new farm. A farmer’s business is so precarious. Support your local farms. 👩🏼🌾
