A mystical city covered in all shades of blue seen through the lens of Steve McCurry.
Located on the edge of Thar Desert in India, #Jodhpur, also known as the #Blue #City, is the second #largest city in Rajasthan encompassing one of the most ancient civilisations in the world. The city is #painted in blue – but why, remains unknown. Some say it has to do with the caste system. Locals say it’s simply for maintaining the house #temperature and keeping the #mosquitos away. Others, the most romantic, say that maybe the #sky fell on the ground and everything turned blue.
#Steve_McCurry is an iconic #photographer, mostly known for the ‘#Afghan_girl’, a picture published in #National #Geographic in 1985. He has been travelling to many different places with his camera, capturing the #beauty of this world.
Though I find it hard to decide, I would have to say that out of all his albums, Blue City is my favourite. The magical blue setting creates contrast with everything it surrounds, seamlessly depicting the vibrant culture of this city.
Dressed in #colourful textiles and golden jewelry, locals are wandering around the city barefoot. Each #picture has its own story to tell, but much is not revealed, leaving us with a sense of wonder and a simple question: how on earth did this city turn blue?
