According to @collidervideo's Steve Weintraub (via unnamed sources), @disney and Lucasfilm are pumping the brakes on their 'A Star Wars Story' (@starwarsmovies) spin-off series, including the 'Obi-Wan' film (which apparently was in active development), and the 'Boba Fett' flick (for which it was reported a while back that 'Logan' director James Mangold would write and direct). The studios intend to focus on J.J. Abrams' forthcoming, as-yet-untitled Episode IX, and whatever the following trilogy will become (whether that is the announced Rian Johnson series, or the one from @gameofthrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B Weiss is unclear). There is little doubt that this move is in response to the box office disappointment of 'Solo: A @starwars Story', released last month. The film underwent extensive reshoots under replacement director @realronhoward, after original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were let go, and the budget ballooned. It has not been made clear what the actual production budget was, but many estimates suggest it was north of $250 million, and, with the added marketing costs, it is entirely possible that unlike all the other Star Wars movies that have been released by @disney ('The Force Awakens', 'Rogue One', and 'The Last Jedi' @starwarsmovies) - each of which managed a billion dollars worldwide, - 'Solo' may actually lose the studio money.
I was somewhat interested in the Obi-Wan movie, and while these spin-offs may still happen at some point, I think it's good that Lucasfilm is taking a step back to reassess its situation. #courtshake #starwars #obiwankenobi #bobafett #obiwan #kenobi #starwarsmovies #solo #astarwarsstory #soloastarwarsstory #gameofthrones #starwarstheforceawakens #starwarsthelastjedi #theforceawakens #thelastjedi #jjabrams #rianjohnson #jamesmangold #ewanmcgregor #ronhoward #hellothere #youwerethechosenone #youhavedonethatyourself #hesnogoodtomedead
