On Tuesday, Sept 26th, I woke up with the most intense cramps and knew I was going into labor. My water broke and I rushed to hospital to give birth. A few hours later, my beautiful and healthy baby boy was born. This photo captures the first time I met the little person who lived in my belly for the last 9 months.
Giving birth that day was a complete surprise and I was just over 40 weeks pregnant. The day before, I worked out, spent the day out of the house and stayed out working in my gym till gone 9 pm. I was lucky to experience a quick and natural delivery. The head of nursing said it was one of the fastest natural deliveries she had ever seen which I believe is due to my training.
From the day I found out I was pregnant till the day before my delivery, I lifted weights and exercised. I hope I can help break all myths about weightlifting and pregnancy. It is important to modify exercise and not to do anything too intensive, but there is a lot of nonsense about training with weights during pregnancy.
Lifting helped me with the following benefits:
A smooth and easy pregnancy (more or less!)
Healthy and controlled weight gain
A healthy baby boy
No stretch marks
An easy and quick delivery
Prevention of health complications
Positioning the baby's head in the right direction for a natural birth
Reduces the likeliness of having a Cesarean
Quick recovery after birth
As soon as I am fully recovered, I will be back in the gym working on my transformation. My goal is to show that moms can have their bodies back with the right diet and training plan. In the meantime, I am going to enjoy being a new mother to baby Andrew.
