I know what it's like to be bullied, and I think it's harmful, pointless, disrespectful, and unacceptable. Hang in there, mah buddies. 😊

Bullying is not always physical but can also be categorized as emotional, cyber, sexting or circulating suggestive and/or nude photos about an individual.
Though bullying can be a factor in suicide among youth, it is not always the leading cause. However, it does inflict the following: depression, anxiety, worsen feelings of isolation, rejection and despair in youth and teens.
A Yale University study suggests that victims of bullying are 2 to 9 times more likely to commit suicide than non-victims.

In January of last year, Gabriel Taye was found dead after he hung himself with a necktie in his Cincinnati home. In post investigation, a video was found of two days prior to his death of Gabriel being bullied at school. Not only was DEEP WATERS created to honor Gabriel Taye but any youth or teen whose life was taken as a result of bullying. Our prayers remain with you and your families. We ask God for your strength and that light be upon you as you carry on from day to day. •
To any youth or teen whom may be or know of anyone experiencing depression, neglect, anxiety or unworthiness as a result of bullying, please don't silence your voice. Let your concerns be known and know that you are NEVER alone. •

^^THIS. Never let a bully make you feel bad! It could be just misplaced anger and you're just an unfortunate target. #RiseAbove.

This is going to deviate from my usual chipper posts about beautiful and wonderful things here in Paris. So we went to a Japanese restaurant this evening and were having a good time. This group of friends, presumably in their early 20s, came and ordered take-away sushi to take out (they sat on a table that wasn't set, there were no cutlery/glasses/napkins, etc) However, when their food came, they immediately started to eat on the spot and feigned naivety in front of the waitress and pretended that they didn't know the difference in pricing. One of the boys then abruptly asked for a spoon because he couldn't find one in his bag (and why would he if he was ordering take-out in the first place?!). The girl here kept smirking and giggling to herself, her facial expression and body language screamed "ha, we won. I don't give a shit about this". My problems with this are:
1) This is a clear display of racism. If they wouldn't do at The Ritz in Paris (all served by white men and presumably having a white manager too) or at Plaza Athenee, or any other white-run restaurants, then why take advantage of this independent restaurant run by ethnic minorities in France?
2) Their entitlement. Perhaps they have done it before and enjoy this sort of "white privilege" much to the dismay and chagrin of other ethnic minorities. I couldn't sit and watch this happen. My fiancé (who is French) was discouraging me from saying anything fearing a brawl would break out. But I insisted we did, at least to show our support to the staff there by expressing our disapproval in what we saw. He spoke to the male waiter who was thankful and knew what these idiots are up to. By staying silent you're complicit in this passive aggressive and racist behaviour. And I wouldn't allow myself to do that. And I never will. This is the ugly side of France which I'm sure will keep happening in my lifetime, but if I can do something about this incident and raise awareness, then hopefully we won't see this anymore...

{Day 10 - Overcoming your inner critic} Share your worries, the things your inner critic gets at you about with someone you trust. .
..
.
I know this is a scary/terrifying suggestion. However, telling someone the things your inner critic says to you (or at least the themes and the things you worry about) will likely cause a number of things to happen: 1. Friend will be shocked that the inner critic is so awful to you, and will say soothing things. 2. Friend will be shocked that you are worried these things are true and be able to identify all the reasons why the inner critic is wrong. 3. Friend will be able to stand up to your inner critic with you. 4. Friend will probably be relieved that you have told them these things as they probably have similar things happening for them. 5. Inner critic will have less power as it has been exposed and called out by you and person you care about. .
..
.
In an ideal world, we would all talk about our insecurities and our inner critics. Why? Because we all walk around with them in our heads, worrying that the fears and the inner critic may be right. However, I have yet to meet someone whose inner critic stood up to scrutiny. Every time I test out the words of an inner critic they fall apart pretty quickly. It's just that when it's our own inner critic it can be impossible to see that it is wrong because it is so compelling. Think about it... If your closest friend told you that they had an inner critic telling them they weren't good enough and we're sh*t at everything... What would you say? I reckon you would be pretty astounded, and you would be able to show them a million reasons why it's not true. .
..
.
So, if you can, let's start sharing our stories with each other. Let's join together to unpick the fears and the insecurities and the inner critic. Let's work together to stand up to each other's inner critic. What do you say? .

Stand up to Bullying Show 10/4/18 at 700 Tabor Road at Tabor Hall it’s free...bring the family!!! I will be speaking along side others @sincerehearts #inspirationambitionmotivation #blackhistory365 #blackexcellence #standuptobullying #sincerehearts

Today is just one of those days where the weight of the world is just too much.

I understand you’re not going to get along with everyone in this world, but you can have a certain level of respect. I have lately been struggling with different people. I don’t want to be friends with this person but I do however want to have a level of respect from this person. Though I can’t control how this person acts I can control how I act. However, as much as I can control how I act and respond to this person, it doesn’t mean that how this person is reacting can’t impact me and the way I feel.
I feel sorry for this particular person, I feel sorry that they feel like they need to hurt people in order to make themselves feel better. I feel sorry that they are so bitter to everyone and this whole world. I feel sorry that they are so hurt in themselves that they need to bring others down so badly in order for themselves to feel better. As much as I feel sorry for them, I do not appreciate being bullied. I have been bullied quite badly in the past I thought being an adult that would pass... clearly not. I wish this particular person would realise what impact they have on someone when bullying. Bullying is not ok and it needs to be stopped! I will not stand for being bullied, but in this situation I don’t know how I can stop it. I have tried every tool I have and nothing seems to be working. It sucks as well when they are going behind your back and saying awful things to someone you’re close with. I am hurting at the moment and I am lost, but I know I am better than this bully. They may think they’re winning right now, but bully’s never win.
So everyone I encourage you to just be kind to one another. If you don’t like someone then that’s fine it’s natural to not like everyone but PLEASE keep those nasty thoughts and words to yourself. You might be struggling but chances are the other person is to. Spread love not hate!

It hurts when rumors are being told about you. You have to be strong, know what you stand for, and be proud of who you are. You can not break me. I love who I am! #bullyingisreal #standuptobullying #rebelagainstbullying #dontspreadrumors

My daughter stood up for herself today. She also stood up for her best friends. Three young men became a PACK of hate. They called my daughter a dyke and lesbo, her friend a terrorist. The dean said a suspension had to be the consequence because Zoe punched one of those little bigots. The school seemed to regret having to punish her. We appreciate the sentiment. We do not condone physical violence, however........
I AM PROUD OF YOU ZOE. I love you. #lbgtpride #keepgoingzoe #standuptobullying #homophobiasucks
