I often don’t post what my daily schedule looks like. I guess that’s because it’s always pretty hectic and I never really got a chance to. I’ve always noticed that people think, that to be a dancer is probably the easiest thing to do. Everyone wonders what a professional dancer does everyday, they find it hard to believe when I tell them that we train for 8 hours a day generally and on somedays even 12 or more. Being a Dancer professionally is as demanding as any other profession, both physically and mentally. It’s been one hell of a week, we trained for every single day on building strength, flexibility and skill. We’ve been doing this the whole year but this past week, we’ve tried and pushed ourselves a little harder. 🙂 And tomorrow is another day, another opportunity to get stronger than I am today. .

This week's matrix will involve some coordination as it will combine an Around the World using a ViPR with a Common Lunge Matrix. The momentum of the ViPR will create a frontal plane shift (think "hip check") with EACH lunge. This will load up your lateral hip on the front leg and the groin on the stance leg. Since your arms are overhead, it will also put some load on your lateral core.

So my #FridayTryday is inspired by the amazing @fireupfitnesssheri who is truly fit, strong and definitely creative 👍💪. I only tried two of her exercises from her post last week. Using a Core Flyte (see under my foot) and a BOSU, I attempted these side elbow plank variations exercises. The first one was manageable, yet look at that BOSU wobble...the second exercise (with knee tuck) was soooo difficult 😩-not pretty😂! I think I’m going to blame it on the carpeted floor and NOT me😏😂. Thank you for a great challenge. And I agree, I was firing up my entire body 👍💪🔥. Happy Friday 😊

💥Prepping those Hips Properly💥

Bands can be a great tool for warming up hips and low back if used correctly. So when you’re performing these drills be sure to avoid some common mistakes.
. ✅ Performing a lateral walk, make sure your knees stay over your feet/ankles. While I prefer to band the feet, if it’s more comfortable to band above the knees this is fine.
❌ Which ever you choose, Don’t lead with the foot as you walk. If you allow the foot to get in front of the knee, you’ll fall into hip internal rotation and won’t hit the glutes.
.
✅ Walk in a slight hinge position. This will allow you to load the hips better. ❌ If you walk to upright, you’ll get less benefit and may overload the knee.
.
✅Walk slow with no momentum. ❌ If you allow yourself to use momentum, you’ll loose much of the benefit of this priming drill.
.
BONUS drill at the end. The standing clamshell is a great way to challenge the balance and coordination of the hips. In the first part of the motion you’re working on open chain strength of the glutes, while one the second part of the motion you’re working the closed chain strength of the glutes of the planted leg as well as balance.💯 I love this one.

Como é feito o aquecimento do seu treino?! No meu e no dos meus alunos eu trabalho tudo que eles precisam pensando em melhorar mobilidade e estabilidade para cada articulação com sua respectiva função. Não está completo nos vídeos, pois mesmo eu tendo feito rápido e tendo posto 2 vídeos não cabe tudo...então é pra ilustrar e servir de exemplo. Mas é rápido esse trabalho leva uns 5 minutos, no máximo, mais focado em estabilidade e tá feito o aquecimento. (Role para o lado para continuar)
Após isso os movimentos fluem melhores durante o treino e a longo prazo melhoram suas amplitudes pra sua vida em geral.
Nessa primeira parte que aparecem nesses dois vídeos estou trabalhando a função de mobilidade de cada articulação mesmo as que precisam ser estáveis no treino de força pois identifiquei que estava precisando (PERCEBA QUE A PARTE ALTA DA MINHA LOMBAR NÃO ENROLA, DURA FEITO PAU, ASSIM COMO A TORÁCICA BAIXA). Teve muita mobilidade torácica e quadril tbm...mas não aparecem no vídeo.
Farei outros posts de articulação por articulação.
Aquecimento é muito mais que 10 minutinhos na esteira, aquecimento é movimento, é o que seu corpo precisa!

No Flow Friday today, instead one of the toughest workouts I've done all year, a 12 days of Christmas Special that had me blowing 😥

The workout was to complete as much as you can in 1 hour:
•12 reps of Ninja jumps into squat jump
•11 reps of Hindu push ups
•10 box jumps
•9 handstand push ups
•8 Hang power cleans @60kg
•7 front rack lunges each leg @60kg
•6 burpee pull ups
•5 power snatch @50kg (if you don't have these yet use a dumbbell)
•4 pistol squats each leg
•3 clap push ups
•2 archer into hollow holds •1 30s hollow hold

The way it works is round 1 you do all exercises and reps back to back. Round 2 you knock off the 12 ninja jumps and do the rest. Round 3 knock off the ninja jumps + the Hindu push ups and so on. See how far you can get in the hour. A heads up, from 8-5 is the worst combo each round 😂😂😂

Overhead squat PB in the bag⛄️

I recently added the OH squat into my training because it’s another great variation of the squat. This exercise is great test of overhead STABILITY, MOBILITY and STRENGTH

I slowly worked myself up to a 5RM of 40KG (in the video) then after this video my good friend @teo.coaching persuaded me to give 50KG a go, which I nailed 🎉

Suck your belly in, arch your back, pull your shoulders back, tuck your hips under.

All the common cues you hear when someone wants you to keep your trunk tight and protect the spine.
.
But what are you really trying to achieve when you are creating trunk stability?
.
First, you want to maintain a neutral spine. The spine has generally 4 curves so are you actually positioning the spine in a way where these four curves sit naturally?
.
Secondly, are you using the appropriate musculature to create tension? Not just arching the back or squeezing the abs, but creating an abdominal brace requires an all-round approach to stabilise the spine
.
Lastly, are you positioning the limbs to facilitate spinal stability? Rotating your extremities in a certain direction doesn’t mean you are creating the necessary tension. It might be creating tension in the joint which requires movement and subsequently you have to compensate by moving the spine.
.
So those are the three things I harp on when I work with someone on stabilising their trunk or spine. What do you do?
