Amazing job from @jonessian555 this morning squatting 70kg for 4 reps. A couple of weeks ago she hit 70kg for 2, so it’s wonderful to see her strength and confidence under the bar grow. Not quite hitting depth on all of the reps here, so we will be taking the weight back down to 65kg for a few weeks to train that bottom position before moving the weight back up.

The keys to building bigger glutes are not much different than most other muscle groups.
_
1. Train your legs 2-3x per week and aim to perform 10-20 sets weekly (for quads and hamstrings).
_
2. Heavy compound lifts should be the meat of your workouts. Start off with heavy squats and Weighted Hip Thrusts and then move on to the smaller isolation lifts for more volume.
_
3. Progressive Overload: When it comes to building muscle—glutes or otherwise—there is one thing for certain: it’s not going to happen unless you get progressively stronger. I don’t care how dialed in your nutrition is or how consistently you’re hitting the weight room, if you’re not stimulating growth through new stress, you’re not going to build muscle tissue.

4. Prioritize: if your goal is to build bigger glutes, why are you training shoulders first or leaving your leg/butt work for the end?

When it comes to programming for weightlifting I like to stick to the basics. I follow basic periodization and use the classic lifts as the primary focus to keep it simple. I believe it is easy to overthink things and get TOO creative. Sticking to the classic lifts and variations of the classic lifts as the base, I include plenty of squat, pulling, midline & overhead strength work as it relates to the classic lifts, and finally, include appropriate accessory work to target weaknesses. The first movement at the beginning of your training week needs to involve a heavy bar on your back. Universal motor recruitment, performed in a wave of contraction from the trunk to the extremity, multi-joint, natural, effective & efficient. Creating the same neuroendocrine response (google it) through isolation is lacking, regardless of how many plates you load the leg press with. #squatheavy #squatoften #crossfit #battlethebullshit
