Josh Hart is a very underrated piece on the Los Angeles Laker’s roster. Like Kuzma, he will likely be entering his prime while still on a rookie contract for the Lakers. This advantage for LA comes from the fact that he played four seasons at Villanova and entered the league older than most rookies.
Hart was the 30th pick in last year’s draft and is a very big guard, measured at 6’5 210 lbs. At the draft combine, his wingspan measured 6’8.25” and his body fat, 5.8%.
Hart is a winner who is committed to playing defense and rebounding. At the same height as PJ Tucker, and just 15 pounds lighter, he shares many of Tucker’s attributes. In the 17 games he started and played at least 30 min, Hart averaged 7.4 rebounds. That’s huge production from a guard. His size matched with agility makes him a perfect candidate to guard the positionless lineups that the Warriors put on the floor. At his age, he won’t get pushed around like a normal 2nd year player.
He is also quite versatile on offense as well. In the 20 total games that he played over 30 min, he averaged 14.5 ppg on 51% FG shooting. For the season, he shot 47% FG and 40% 3P. He averaged 7.9 ppg and 4.2 rpg over the course of the season, on just 23 starts in 63 games played. His season highs were 30 pts and 14 reb.
If LA ends up landing Lebron and Kawhi/PG13, Hart may be starting in the backcourt or be sixth man on a legitimate contender. Regardless of his role, he has the potential to be a huge contributor in series against the Rockets and Warriors. Players who do the little things, like committing to defense and rebounding, can easily carve out nice roles alongside Lebron. Toss in the facts that Hart can hit catch-and-shoot threes efficiently and put the ball on the floor, and he has all the makings to produce alongside an LA LeBron. Don’t be suprised if he ends up stealing minutes from Ingram (assuming neither is traded) in a scenario where a couple of stars land in LA.
