William Benington Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of the 2018 @royal_sculptors #SpotlightAward 2018 at Contemporary Sculpture Fulmer on the 16 June 2018.
This year for the first time the Spotlight Award will be hosted at William Benington Gallery’s Buckinghamshire sculpture park Contemporary Sculpture Fulmer. The 2018 winner @marco_miehling has been invited to create a solo sculptural installation in a cleared area of woodland.
Marco has said the following about the project: “The installation, titled
AMONG HER LEISURE OCCUPATIONS IS BIRDWATCHING PT. I + II
takes the form of the temporary occupation of a woodland clearing at Contemporary Sculpture Fulmer.
The works appear to be ephemeral and under construction, seemingly impermanent or perhaps transient, impacting little on their environment. The individual sculptural elements are fixed without welding and bolts, instead using steel wires and cable winches to create tension holding the elements together. They are thereby considered primarily by the method of fixing and construction, rather than aesthetic principles.
The installation reflects the surrounding landscape and nature by projecting the ‘installation-construction-grid’ as a shadow on the ground.
The proportions of the works reference the Vitruvian Man – a proportion system based on the human body.
From June until October, the architectural environment is replaced and a strained state, resulting from opposite actions, remains." Contemporary Sculpture Fulmer is open by appointment, invitations and select open days until 20 October 2018.
