Really excited to launch my Youth Netball Academy this week! This is a program for netball athletes ages 12-16 wanting to improve their netball performance, reduce pain and decrease injury risk.

Over the next 10 weeks we will be focusing on improving their movement efficiency, teaching them proper jump and landing mechanics, improving their overall strength, mobility and stability.

Getting female athletes strength training YOUNG is vital to reducing injury risk factors later on and to allow for a long and successful playing career!
Looking forward to training these girls out of @helixperformance 💪

A little snippet of what some of the @westcoastwarriorswa netball athletes have been up to during S&C this season. A few more weeks left before we hit finals 👌
Girls are looking stronger every week with not a single injury in sight 💪😉

Single leg squat goals with netball athlete @hana_stokes as part of her in-season programming. We have been working single leg squats for a while now starting with sitting and standing of a box and gradually reducing box height before eliminating it completely. #goals

Netball athletes Jas, Hana and Kellie performing Bulgarian Split Squats with Plate Overhead as their supplementary lower body push exercise as part of their in-season S&C programming.
We use this exercise to target the glutes and quadriceps. The plate overhead is a variation we use to increase core activation and stability, and mid to upper back strength.
Strength and stability on one leg is vital to the netball athlete as 66% of landings in a game are on one leg. Almost all knee and ankle injuries also occur landing on one leg! Single leg strength also has a carry over to vertical jump performance and change of direction speed. All essential for successful performance in netball!

Spent this afternoon delivering my Netball Injury Screening Workshop to a full house of netball athletes and their parents. Teaching them WHY they are so susceptible to injury and what they can do to prevent injuries and have a long and successful playing career! All athletes underwent a movement screen to assess their injury risk and learnt exercises to correct these issues.
Big thank you to my side kick @gnomes91 for coming along and helping out. And thank you to the athletes and parents that attended! More pictures and videos coming soom! 👌💪 Mandy x

Alpine Ski Testing ⛷ This is a nice example of sport specific testing. Each time the athlete lands to the right of the box, we are able to collect force-time data. We're also counting the max number of jumps in 60s. Tough test!

I was talking to some young netball athletes (14-16 years) a few weeks ago whilst visiting their club to run an S&C workshop and I was completely blown away that out of the 4 girls I was chatting to 1 suffers regular lower back pain, one had torn ligaments in her ankle, and one suffered from patellofemoral syndrome.

Unfortunately, this is the case all to often with this age group AND these issues are actually preventable!!!! Injury rates in netball are on the INCREASE. Female athletes sustain knee injuries up to 6 times MORE than male athletes. The PEAK incidence of ACL injury in female athletes occurs at ages 14-16 years!

Warriors athletes up early on a Monday morning for their strength sessions! Performing single leg glute bridges for hamstring and glute development as well as single leg strength and stability.
Netball athletes land on one leg more then 60% of the time during a game and almost all lower limb injuries occurs whilst landing on one leg.
Most athletes are lacking single leg strength and stability AND glute and hamstring strength predisposing them to knee and ankle injuries.
Single leg work is an essential part of my athletes programming to reduce injury risk and improve strength and stability on one leg.
