We have had the pleasure of working with this client for many years now and have assisted him on his journey and transformation from Boxing to Triathlon to Ultra domination!! Not only was @ironmantri his 5️⃣th one in Bolton, but only 8 weeks ago he completed @ironman_lanzarote and in a few weeks he will be taking part in Ironman 70.3 in 🇦🇺 Australia 🐨
He certainly needs to take some serious R&R after his next event 😅

Eccentric loading is a form of strengthening requiring the actin and myosin heads found within the muscle fibers to make stronger connections (cross bridges). A great exercise to perform when recovering from hamstring strains; proximal or distal. .

As muscles endure an eccentric load, the actin and myosin fibers found within those muscles continue to contract all throughout the ROM (Range of Motion). As the muscles lengthen, shortly after a concentric contraction, eccentrics take over. Eccentric exercises increases tension on a muscle as it lengthens, opposing an opposite force, in this case, your body weight. .

Again! This IS a challenging exercse, so don't feel discouraged, we can always build up. It's important we focus on the eccentrics of ANY exercise for people with strains and tendinopathies. This is the best way we can get the most "bang for our buck", but unfortunately is commonly overlooked. .

One for our Level 4 Sports Massage students!
A client came in today concerned with shoulder pain from pushing a heavy object.
It’s almost immediately clear that there is a step deformity caused by AC joint separation (shown in picture 2)
Further movement and special tests were completed to fully diagnose.

Kinesiology tape was applied to ease Trap pain and help facilitate the surrounding muscles.

Rehab will begin soon and in the mean time ice and rest is best!
As a level 4 SMT you can fully assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of injuries throughout the body!
Great as a follow on from the L3 or for those in similar fields who want to widen their client base.

Tip Tuesday

We have covered a few self mobilization techniques and it important to do things in the correct order.

My philosophy is:
1️⃣ warm up to get blood flowing
2️⃣ loosen up the tight muscles with massage
3️⃣ stretch the muscle that was just loosened up & mobilize the joint to get it moving
4️⃣ do exercises through the new range that was gained after loosening the muscles and joint

Hip Flexor Stretching, are you doing it correctly? Maybe, maybe not. 🧐

Depending on the sport and athlete overall hip flexors are more often than not run in the stiffer side. Some people sit all day and then they sport of choice is cycling/spinning/Running.... all heavy in hip flexor activity. .
.

For most people, the reasons as to why the Hip flexors became Stiff in the first place are all very different and you have to remember that there are probably other things aside from just stretching that need to be implemented. Stretching is just one small part of regimen. There are other needs that need to be looked at ie: movement pattern, muscle power, joint mobility. .
.
.
But it is not a bad idea to at least provide a proper way to stretch the hip flexors. I go out for runs and observe people attempting to do this stretch and it is done incorrectly A LOT of the time. .

So today’s post might not be to some peoples taste....but I was treating a client today and his lateral quads were super tight!!!!
I decided to needle them and they just went crazy with a localised twitch response....soooo we decided to video it to share with you all.
Most of you either don’t want to see the needles or you are face down on the Physio bed so you can’t see the needle technique even if you wanted to. What I am doing here is threading through the muscle to draw a blood supply to the area in an inflammatory response fashion. This brings nutrients for healing the tissue but also will help take away the products that are part of the cause of the tightness.....in a very brief overview.....enjoy!

💫Hip pain💫
Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI) syndrome is a motion related disorder at the hip.
----------
It usually presents with pain in the groin but can also refer into the thigh, buttock, knee and lower back. Symptoms are often worse with intense exercise - particularly repeated flexion, prolonged sitting and a combination of flexion/internal rotation. Clicking and clunking may also be present.
----------
It is the result of either a:
💭 CAM impingement: relating to the flattening or convexity of the femoral head/neck junction aka a 'bump' on the ball of the ball/socket joint. More common in the younger, athletic population.
💭PINCER impingement: relating to an over coverage of the acetabulum aka the socket covers too much of the femoral head.

More often, there can be a combination of the two.
----------
The diagnosis depends on a triad of symptoms: clinical, symptomatic and imaging.
= all three need to be present to diagnose FAI syndrome.

Treatment should consist of:
💭 Conservative management: activity modification, watchful waiting, NSAIDS, education.
💭Physiotherapy/Rehabilitation: building strength, neuromuscular control, improving movement patterns
💭Surgery: to correct the bony morphology and allow for pain/impingement free movement.
= There is currently no high quality evidence on which intervention is superior for treatment of FAI syndrome in the long term, although it is likely the symptoms may worsen with time. Treatment will rely on a multi-disciplinary approach for each individual patient.

⚽Ankle sprain Rehab⚽

The first few sessions we worked on regaining ankle PROM, joint mobility, decreasing pain and strengthening her hips (especially the gluteus medius, studies has shown to decrease in activation after suffering an ankle sprain). Now we are working on single stability, balance and proprioception.

If you're not keeping your lower back and abs contracted, then you're only working your hip flexors. If you feel your lower back starting to arch, then it's time to stop. Focus on proper #form instead of number of reps. Here's how to do this exercise correctly: - Maintain your back's natural curve, don't flatten your back against the floor. - Keep your head and shoulders flat against the floor.
- Your neck should be relaxed and your #abs should be contracted.

What does a typical treatment @northcenterhealthcare look like with @dr.snaps1790?

Assuming we have already performed a consultation and exam/movement assessment, I will typically use some sort of therapy to improve joint movement (kinematics) which in the case of @weavy_tl was a bit of soft tissue work with the @hyperice Hypervolt tool and then applying a few adjustments to restricted regions of his body.

Then I continue to then increase stability via corrective exercises (DNS) that are customized and aimed at correcting compensations that may be contributing to your injury or condition.

As I have said before, I don’t know if perfect movement exists but I definitely know that we can all be moving better which in the long run will keep our joints happier and healthier!
