💪Nailing the 'Slide' in tennis is vitally important, especially on Clay Court and Syn Grass (for Club players).
.
💪Sliding allows for a stable base of support (stability), which is then used to transfer a massive amount of power from the legs up through the trunk and upper limbs and into the the racquet.
. 💪The 3 key factors are:
🎾Momentum (Speed and Mass)
🎾Depth (Getting low witth that mass at the start of the slide)
🎾Placement (of the foot, pointing it in the direction of movement).
.
💥If you are too slow, you will not slide.
.
💥If you are not low, your centre of mass will tend to shift outside the leading foot, reduce your balance and you will not slide, this is an injury 🤕 risk for ankle sprains (one of the most common acute injury in tennis).
.
💥If you don't place your foot in the direction of travel, you will not use the beautiful folding mechanism of your ankle/foot (forward/back - dorsiflexion/plantarflexion) which acts like a spring, folding before ball contact and exploding 💥 back again in the opposite direction to get you back to centre court. If you place your foot pointing down the court (not towards your direction of travel) you are then putting your self at risk of injury 🤕 for an ankle sprain, your ankle doesn't 'fold' side to side as well as forward and backwards.

🔥 Thoracic mobility self-assessment 🔥

👊In a previous post we went over flexion and external rotation active range of motion. In today’s post we are looking at thoracic rotation in a seated position.
.
🧐Are you thinking about starting a fitness regimen that includes overhead lifting or any sports that require overhead shoulder range of motion for example baseball or tennis? .
👀 Thoracic mobility is an important component of normal overhead shoulder function. If thoracic spine mobility is restricted then true Shoulder overhead motion will be compromised either by arching at your lower back or via extra stress to the shoulder. True shoulder mobility is a prerequisite for any of these activities listed above. It’s very common in athletes or fitness enthusiast to find restrictions in their thoracic spine especially extension given our tendency towards being in a rounded posture.

😎This drill allows you to assess where your thoracic spine rotation range of motion is in regards to the norm of 45 degrees. This is key for long-term injury prevention.

“Lift light weights like they’re heavy and you will lift heavy weights like they’re light.” 👉In other, less elegant words, do your warm up sets with the same intent that you lift your heavier sets (intent DOES NOT = intensity). Not only do your warmup sets provide your tissues with increased blood flow, it also serves to potentiate appropriate neuromuscular recruitment. If it’s a good idea to focus on your form and technique during heavier sets, you can bet it’s a good idea to focus on your form and technique during your warmup sets.
