The NZ High Commission in Samoa had a couple of special visitors at HQ today — former All Black and Hurricanes legend, Rodney So'oialo... and the Webb Ellis Cup, the ACTUAL trophy awarded to the winner of the Rugby World Cup.
Rodney is in Samoa to support an exciting New Zealand-funded sports partnership aimed at reducing the efforts of non-communicable diseases by promoting healthy lifestyles, active living and better nutritional choices. Through the programme, NZ Rugby will introduce Pacific kids to a type of rugby known as 'Quick Rip' — for which Rodney is an official spokesperson.
The partnership will be officially launched at the Rugby World Cup qualifier being played between Manu Samoa and Fiji at Apia Park, tomorrow.
Rodney is currently Forwards Coach for the Wellington Lions, and during his rugby career, he represented Wellington at a provincial level 64 times, played 101 matches for the Wellington Hurricanes, and played in 63 All Blacks games, including five as captain.
