🔷🔸BACK MOBILITY🔸🔷
Here are some back mobility exercises I do every morning! These may not be suitable if you already have back pain!!!

🔷 Cat and camel: arching you spine upwards, tuck your coccyx and head under then transition by curving your spine down, lifting your chin and coccyx up
🔷 Knee hugs: hug your knees and bring them as close to your chest as comfortable. Release and repeat!
🔷 Bridge: feet hip width apart lift your hips off of the floor. Slowly lower your body down, one spinal segment at a time
🔶 Tsp rotation: thread one arm through the gap and rest your shoulder on the floor. Open up your chest and look at your fingers as you extend. Try to keep the supporting arm straight
🔶 Knee rolls: the key to this exercise is to control the movement. Lower your knees (together) to each side of your body and bring back to the centre
🔶 Rotational stretch: the aim of this stretch it to keep your shoulder and opposite knee on the floor. However, this shouldn't be uncomfortable!

Dan Buchanan, Soft Tissue & Performance Therapist.

Dan is a highly experienced Soft Tissue Therapist. He has 16 years of experience working across a variety sports most notably with Reading FC, Argentina Rugby, Diversity Dance Group and Team GB Hockey.

After completing his Sports Rehabilitation degree in 2003 he went on to develop a specialism in Soft Tissue and Performance Therapy (BTEC Level 5).

He enjoys the challenge of working with a range of individuals from elite athletes through to individuals living with chronic pain. As a regional director of the SMA he is committed to improving the quality of Soft Tissue Therapy provision in the UK.

To follow on from my Facebook post about running for beginners, I've decided to post a few exercises as examples of what you could be doing. These exercises can help to strengthen the muscles required for running and they can all be done at home!
**these are generalised exercises, if you would like specific exercises for injury prevention please contact me** 1⃣ Squats! Make sure your feet are hip width apart with your toes pointed slightly out. The movement is just as if you are sitting down, if it makes it easier use a box or seat but don't stop at the bottom.

2⃣ Calf raises! These are easy to do and can be done whilst brushing your teeth if you like! To progress this exercise, perform it on a step and lower your heels below the step.

3⃣ Glute bridges! Your feet should be hip width apart and flat on the floor. Raise your hips off of the ground and squeeze your glutes together. Lower back to the ground and repeat.

🏋**STRENGTH TRAINING**🏋
I’ve heard the “I don’t want to do strength training, I don’t want to get big” so many times. There are so many advantages to including strength training in your lifestyle, the World Health Organisation actually advises you do some sort of strengthening activity twice a week!
Strength training doesn’t not make you bigger on its own, it takes years of intense weightlifting to reach the sizes you imagine. Strength does however increase muscular tone, help to reduce body fat and reduce risk of injury, it does not however automatically increase your size.
