Two hours in on this batch of five and probably have an hour and a half left, showing that when done well, batching can be faster, in this case saving about an hour and a half. Today I'm not jittery from working fast, but I am grooving out to some Motown and Bill Joel, which is getting me going fast. I'm also pulling out all the stops, using using the mule, using a bowl gouge to prep the fibers in the bowls, and later I'll be finishing the bowls with a twca cam to get a super clean surface. While it can be tempting to always do batches like this, I will say that my hands were not strong enough to work this way until recently. I needed the variation in carving one at a time to give my muscles a rest. So far I seem to be able to do it at this scale, but don't hurt yourself! Build up to it.
