"This film rock's" - Dwayne Johnson.
Moana - dir/Disney Cronies.
I'm Personally not a huge fan of family animation as a subgenre mostly due to the rinse and repeat formula, but Moana was surprisingly sweet to my palette, my soft, sensual palette.
Synopsis : Once a devastating ancient horror threatens the peaceful island Moana and her people call home, she sets out on a journey to seek Maui, a demigod foretold of releasing such blight, so that he can finally set things right and save her home.
Thoughts : Like I said before I did enjoy this film although it's genre isn't my forte so don't bite my head off if I say something you don't agree with, baby. Now the problems I had with Moana are strictly minor for the most part. For one, I feel the film itself was missing some substance. The majority of the movie we watched Moana and Maui sail with a couple of side plots, but nothing too immense. Not that this is bad, but there could have been much much more than just sailing around with just the two of them. Especially when the "villain" doesn't have any character. Maybe the smaller cast was intentional, as well as the song selections, which were solid, but yet again not as memorable and catchy as previous works.
Another quirk that bugs me was Moanas ability to travel and over water and through it, she can even part it on command, why was this journey anything but smooth sailing, lol. In all fairness, it's a lesson like most Disney films tend to have. Finding yourself, persevering obstacles, breaking norms, ect... Stuff people haven't heard before. But this makes the story lack character so it blends into the inoffensive pop animation category.
Conclusion : Moana still keeps general interest among its quirks I have for it. Its definitely a solid nostalgia trip for young adults who grew up on Disney, and could keep little kids attention long enough for you to finally get that man in your life. Perhaps Disney is a fucking scary machine that is literally inches from controlling everything and everyone, Moanas still aight. It's a tangy lime cornchip with sweet/spicy dip.
