LIZARD LUNGE 🦎 is Day 2️⃣1️⃣ of the #splits30 challenge 🤗! .
Modifications ⚠️:
Beginner ➡️ Place blocks under hands
Intermediate ➡️ Shown in pic above
Advanced ➡️ Lower down onto elbows

Correct ✅ >Alignment of the front foot will help with the rest of the posture >Shoulder are Opening and shoulder blades are rolling down the back >Thighs are lifted, descending, and engaged, and helping to square the hips
>Knee is hugging into the shoulders, which helps to engage the inner thigh and core
>Foot and toes are grounded, allowing the entire pose to be lifted and engaged and strong while stretching >>
Incorrect ❌:
>Front foot alignment is throwing off entire pose >Inner thighs and quads are not engaged so knee is opening to the side and collapsing
>Shoulders not rolling down the back and instead are lifting up towards ears
>Abs not lifted or engaged >>

Today is Day 2 of #earthbodyyogis ⁣dedicated to loving our bodies and the earth 🌏 Today’s pose is splits! I’m so proud of myself for finally getting my splits 🤗 I recently finished the splits 30 program by @actionjacquelyn where I started about 4-5 inches off the ground, and look at me today! Such a fantastic accomplishment and I can’t wait to see how I progress from here! 🌊🌴💕

Day 4 of our month long challenge #SPLITtember is #pyramidpose presented by very talented @yogafter40. I’m doing a revolved variation which I had just practiced in #splits30 from our awesome sponsor @getstretchy. Hello, hello splits-lovers!
Day 2 of our month long challenge #SPLITtember is front splits on both sides - “before” pics. We will be able to compare at the end of our challenge with our “after” pics. There is still time to join the challenge too. Just jump right in.
Today all the hosts are posting (or posted), and tonight watch for the amazing @jennyg2bfit to post tomorrow’s pose. If you’d like you can reference the challenge calendar which you may have seen floating around to find out who is leading out. I posted it in my highlights, so you can always catch it there if you need it.
I’m so excited to be posting today. It’s my very first post while hosting an IG challenge!
As far as tips on hanumanasana, I took a class this summer on hanumanasana and there was a lot of emphasis on muscle engagement - engage quads, hamstrings, etc. I also did a video by @getstretchy this morning (who is one of our awesome sponsors) and Jacqueline also emphasized muscle engagement rather than just hanging in the joints. She talks a lot about pulling the belly in and lifting up through the upper body strongly. So, what I'm getting out of that is that #splits involves lots of engagement of the muscles everywhere! < HOW TO MODIFY THE SPLITS! 🤸🏼‍♀️ Tag a friend and share the knowledge! >
​In preparation for the #Splits30​ Challenge ✨starting 4.19.17✨ In this post I'm showing you what to do if your hips are not all the way at the ground yet, and how to properly align your body in the splits. 🙌🏽 The above photo requires 3 blocks, but if you do not have blocks, then use bolsters or blankets in place of blocks. If you are very tight, you can place as many blocks under your thigh and hands that you need in order to feel comfortable in the splits. ☀️

Study the lines of energy in the human body, and you'll understand every yoga pose you're trying to do.
This is how I approach any type of movement, like yoga, dance, surfing, etc.

The lines in the splits photo above represent where your efforts and returns should be active. Remember, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, so when you extend effort in one direction, there must be a balancing return of energy in the opposite direction. .

Correct photo ✅: The energy of the splits needs to be contained. Gravity will pull your body down towards the earth, and it is your job to both relax into the stretch, and also draw the thigh bones to your hips. It's a fine balance. :) Protect your lower back by pulling abs in, drawing tailbone down, and lifting head high. .

Incorrect photo ❌: I'm not using blocks, which is causing me to hunch over, and lose the length in my spine. I'm also opening my hips, which puts my back knee in danger. The lines of energy in this photo are not harmonious, or balanced. .
