🌿🔍Quick Fact: Graphine-enhanced spider silk has been created. It is 3x stronger than normal spider silk.
Spider silk has long been known to be extremely tough and to have interesting mechanical properties, but scaling this silk to a usable size for humans has been difficult
However, researchers have managed to enhance its strength with graphene and carbon nanotubes - the modified silk is actually spun by the spiders, after they simply feed on the graphene and carbon nanotubes
The new silk is 3x stronger and 10x tougher than unmodified silk, and could open the door to new types of high-performance bionic composites
