#discovergrenada Do you know 'the lady in a boat with a red petticoat'? She goes by the name of Nutmeg and it's impossible to visit Grenada and not encounter her. She sure spices up life there! Grenada is the world's second largest producer of nutmeg (after Indonesia), and it is so highly revered that it is depicted on the Grenadian national flag.
Spotted this stash of black nutmegs peering through their brown mace at the Spice Market located in the island's capital of St George's. Slide for a pic of the yellow nutmeg fruit which splits open when ripe (forming the boat) to reveal the precious nutmeg (the lady) wrapped in red mace (the red petticoat). That explains the riddle. 🙂The red mace turns brown when dried and the black 'nut' is grounded for:
•flavoring foods including jams, jellies, pastries, ice creams and chocolates,
•adding a lovely fragrance to products such as oils, scented candles and soaps,
•spicing up coffee, teas ☕️ and hot chocolate drinks, and
•giving a special twist to cocktails.🍹
Slide further for a pic of one such drink I enjoyed...nothing says 'Exotic Caribbean' like a rum punch garnished with fruits and topped with a sprinkling of nutmeg!
