As good as it is, my phone camera doesn't always capture things exactly as my eyes see them, so I've dimmed the brightness in this shot about 35% to show a very close approximation of how dim everything got in Spencer Park during yesterday's eclipse. The temperature dropped easily 6 or 7 degrees, maybe a bit more, and a cool wind relieved the air of its heaviness. Everywhere you looked just had this...edited quality to it (as one friend said, like an Instagram filter). I was just taken by the sudden and temporary sense of.... finite-ness and limitation, like the moon suddenly created a boundary for the sky, making it feel more like a true firmament, a high blue ceiling that you could touch with your fingers if you could just get up there. Suddenly the sky was a solid thing, like a projector screen, cozy and close.
Anyway, I'm glad I made the time to go out and experience it.
