This picture describes me pretty well right now. Stuck.
I am spending pretty much all my time in front of the computer editing up the documentary Rob (@untamedscience) and I have shot this year. Making a 1hr documentary is a creative journey that is much like a relationship. Some days the computer program just crashes. Over and over again... All attempts of civil communication fails and there is a cloud of frustration that fills the air.
Then you have days when everything flows. Days when there seems to be a mutual understanding of why we are doing this, my MacBook Pro and I. The images fills you with positive energy and the amazing experiences that are tied to every single video clip.
When there is something deeper and more meaningful to it all than just a video. A story of a place that is filled with beautiful nature, exciting adventures and interesting stories us as long as we are willing to return the love, respect and protection.
Rob took this picture of me as I am crawling out of one of the tightest passages I have ever even attempted. Imagine having to breathe out in order to more forward. :)
We are about 40m underground in a sinkhole cave. Sinkholes are crazy interesting.
Where we are the ground is made up of layers of sediment originating from a time when all of this land was underwater. The different layers can have different properties. For example Limestone will dissolve when they come into contact with an acid. It just so happens that rainwater is weakly acidic so as water seeps through the ground, some of the layers that have limestone will over time get dissolved and create an underground network of cracks and passageways. And sometimes even bigger openings. in this instance part of the ground has been so washed out that the surface collapsed and exposed a large hidden cave. To explore it we had to get through some seriously tight passages.
The film is set to premier around April 2018 and will be a mix of science, natural history and a touch of adventure.
