A skater lunge is a great way off-ice to develop good mechanics for a proper stride on-ice. You have to be specific in your stepping and that you lunge at a 45° angle ↖️↗️; mimicking a proper stride. Erik does a good job of stepping in a proper angle and then sinking his hips. This is a work in progress, but he's been putting the work in 🏋️‍♂️ and getting better #DesireDevelopAdvance

Backwards skating is very important and is often overlooked in practices. Here Matthew is working on a backwards escape turn. This is a more advanced drill for a squirt age player as they have to adapt to throwing a head/body fake and pivot out the opposite way all at the same time while protecting the puck. Also, it's important for a player to be comfortable falling when doing power skating drills. They MUST understand that they have to get our of their comfort zone in order to learn how to balance themselves on their edges. Good work here by Matthew with keeping his feet moving the WHOLE time. When doing an escape turn, you have to keep your feet moving the WHOLE time.

Workout Wed: Run Faster? Easy Drill to build up to...The Build Up Sprint.

While the Build Up Sprint is the most important drill for learning to run smoother, easier and faster, this is the best drill for developing two critical running skills: running off the balls of your feet and relaxation. Take your time and give your body time to "feel" the action and then rehearse the correct movements and synchronizations. Copy and rehearse the running form and body motions demonstrated in the video.
Tips and Points
• First, practice each drill separately.
• When practicing the Build Up Sprint, start off slow at 25% building up to about 75% of full speed. Reach 75% at about the half way point for 40 up to 100 yards.
• Keep the focus high and the face, neck, jaw, shoulders, chest and eyes relaxed.
• Land on balls of feet only and bounce through each progressing drill.
• Be patient. Once you’ve mastered the skill, then add more speed.

These photos are of Henry doing a deep bend squat properly. It's so critical for #hockey players to master this as it has a direct impact on their skating. This teaches players how to hinge their hips and get really low. -Proper posture is very important for balance and power when skating. This first photo shows Henry's feet shoulder width apart and toes straight. -His hips are hindged so he can sink into his squat and not bend his knees to get low. Notice how his knees are behind his toes. -Henry's back is straight and head up. -In the 2nd photo shows Henry staying planted in his feet properly as he starts to push up. His heels are flat giving him that extra power through his push. -His hips are still hindged as pushes through his hips to get power and explode. -Again, head and back are straight and upright.

One months training RESULTS! ⬇
+ 5kg Deadlift
+ 15kg Back Squats
+ 12.5kg Snatch
+ 1.5kg Bodyweight

The way I've done it. Oly lifts around 4 times per week in the areas I'm weakest, pushing the weight up every session between 3-5 reps and around 4 sets. Back squatting about twice a week and not that much deadlifting (hence the 5kg gains). 🙌

Day 4, a YANG day, after some bodyweight single leg work we went into a fun SAQ (speed, agility, quickness) session on the lawn @canverruibiza 🏃🏽
It's important to include some kind of agility in your training especially if you don't play a sport. Being agile doesn't just improve your athletic performance, it can improve how you move day-to-day and decrease your injury risk.

The guys here are using a speed resistor harness to develop strength and power. It's also a great tool for working on run technique (you have to drive your arms hard to move anywhere!), improving balance and forward lean positioning.
