A little over two miles in the debut Michigan Super and here comes the one Spartan signature obstacle I hate the most, the spear throw. Make it, I'm off running on to the next obstacle. Miss it, 30 burpees, the standard penalty in Spartan. We had just gotten through the twister, A frame cargo net and the 400lb Yokohama tire and I had strategized to accept doing 30 burpees instead of flipping the tire. I believed I could make up time running since the whole race was +8 miles long. This decision took me from 1st to 6th as you can see in the video.
The rest of the race I slowly climbed back up to 1st and won by less than 20 seconds. 1st-4th (@logan.broadbent , @seeborun88 @jordonbuscemi and I) were all within a minute of each other.
After this most recent race a couple weeks ago (once again not cracking top 5 ever in Vegas), I am 0-5 at all Las Vegas Spartan Races on the spear throw. I appreciate whatever the f/$k kind of destiny happened to bring me a 1st place finish and the only Spartan win at the home state. I appreciate all the athletes I met over that weekend who I stay in contact with, even if we didn't officially meet each other. I have mad respect for all of you guys. I can't thank you enough @dyelow_keepitg for your support that day.
I will be back for that race this year to defend my Michigan Spartan Super title and I will be a much better athlete than the one on the Vegas course. I know, I care way too much about this sh$&. #goals #spartanrace #ocr #spearthrow #spartanracemichigan #mrun #camprhino
