We worked towards this pose in some of my Flow classes last week, and I love the look on people’s faces when they see it for the first time. It does look like I’m trying to dislocate and hurt myself 😂 But I assure you, no yogis was hurt in the process. In fact, if done respectfully, working with your own body’s ability, this pose is not painful at all.

In any case, it does remind me that things are not always as it seems. A smile doesn’t mean that there was no effort. An action that seems out of character doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. Sometimes even things that we consider factual and the absolute truth may not always be consistently accurate.
.
As a point of reflection - can our minds be open and flexible enough to accept that in most instance every story unfolds in so many layers that we may never know the whole truth... And can we be humble enough to accept that?

Attended Priyan’s flow class this morning. It has been a very long time since I last attended a flow class and it felt unnatural to move into the different poses so fast lol. The theme for this week’s flow is internal and external rotation of the hips. One of the poses we did was this spear pose variation, with pigeon legs. Using my hand to hold onto my leg here since I cannot kiap my toes at my ribs 😂

Der Tänzer ist für mich noch nicht machbar. Dazu fehlt mir noch die notwendige Flexibilität. Deshalb nehme ich die Variante von @yogawithaislinn. Stellt sicher, dass ihr euch gut aufgewärmt habt. Startet in #Anjaneyasna mit dem linken Fuß vorne. Macht eure Seiten lang, zieht das Steißbein zum Bonden. Bringt eure linke Hand auf den linken Oberschenkel und greift mit eurer rechten Hand an euren rechten Fuß mit aktiven gespreizten Zehen. Zieht den Fuß in Richtung Hüfte. Wenn der Fuß in der Nähe ist, bring den linken Arm von vorne zum Fuß und greif ihn. Nehmt euren rechten Arm nach hinten – mit gespreizten aktiven Fingern oder in einem Mudra eurer Wahl.
Wenn ihr empfindliche Knie habt faltet die Manne vorher oder bringt eine Decke unter euer Knie.

🏔🏁💊 Day 2️⃣1️⃣ of #OverTheCounterYoga with @cyogalife 🔀 #Kuntasana or #SpearPose variation with twist 💊🏁🏔 We’re getting serious here with these challenge poses! #Dancer took me awhile to comfortably get into, and has been a posture I’ve had to periodically give up practicing due to various shoulder and elbow injuries. One of the most central + frequently overlooked components of this #asana is lengthening the back thigh/hip flexors; today’s modifications zeroes in on that ingredient, but without the balancing element, shoulder rotation and deep spinal extension.

You’ll want to warm up with some long holds in lunges + quad stretches like #ArdhaBhekasana and any easier bind like #ardhachandrachapasana, #lizardtwist and #tigerposeprep. Start in #anjaneyasa with your left foot forwards; brace your left forearm against your left thigh, and reach back with your right hand to press your pointed right foot in towards outer right hip. Once your foot is fairly close, reach your left arm across your body to carefully deliver right foot to left hand. (Feel free to use a strap to make your arm a little longer!) Reach your right arm back behind you and make a fancy mudra, of course! 👌🏼✌🏼😜

Spear Pose can be about as comfortable as it sounds, so if this puts a ton of pressure on your knee, place a blanket under your back leg for support. Eventually, you’ll gain enough mobility to rest your weight just above the back kneecap rather than directly on the patella itself. This pose can be intense — make sure that back foot stays strongly engaged to protect your joints, and do both sides!

Hips are one of the hardest to open among other parts of the body. I'm not born with flexible hips which is why I would do hip opening exercises daily without fail.

Spear Pose - That week was the first time I met @eternalpriyan & @crystlll. It was such a wonderful experience. Then, I was practising for seven months only and I felt very apprehensive approaching another studio.

After class, I was affirmed and I must say I really like the mindful practice #NPSOY offered.

So the goal of my yoga is to become more mindful, as such, these are the #mindful internalisations.

Examined the role of your glutes (piriform muscles), knees (joints) & lowerback (lumber area).

👉"When in pigeon, square your hips so that both sides are balance, ie on the same imaginary plane" - use blocks of necessary.

👉"The closer you are on the ground, the more stable you are in this Asana, therefore, stay in the pigeon to stretch out your piriform"

👉"Flex your front feet to protect your knees"

👉"When you are up, engaged the Uddyiana Bandha to protect your lumber spine"

👉"Lift your hind leg towards your back & grab it with you opposite hand by twisting"

👉"Interlock your fingers with your hind legs and pull the leg towards your side body. Extend the other hand outstretched and smile."
