#spearpose EPIC FAIL and I'm ok with that. My knees and legs joints just don't bend this way and it is hard for me.
I think meditation is a personal thing. By that, I mean you have to find what works for you. I quiet my mind and concentrate on my breath first then I slowly let go and turn in. Chakra works well too.

For me I'm still new into meditating as a form of managing my mental health. I know people who have said that meditation seriously has changed their lives and helped with their anxiety/depression so I think that if it works for you, then go for it!

How does it feel?
I hate it. My knees hate it. 🀣

And I live for my night time meditation. Incense, candles, singing bowls, crystals, my big fluffy floor cushion... quiet.
It's literally the only time I can experience absolute silence all day.. cars aren't roaring by outside. Kds aren't playing basketball in the street. Everyone has gone to bed... This is my time to shine bb.
I love to throw in a bit of restorative practice while listening to Sanskrit mantras. Talk about relaxation 😍
Meditation had a huge impact on my mental well being. Maybe not at first but when I began to take it seriously I found immediate benefits.
I was more calm. More positive. Setting daily intentions. Getting things done.

Today's #YogaForMentalHealthAwareness2 pose is #spearpose which my son, who was my photographer today (Hubby took the daughter to a Girl Scouts event.), loved this pose. He says I look like a fierce warrior who's ready to fight. 😊 For today's discussion... Do you use meditation? To be honest, I don't meditate nearly as much as I should. I have a hard time staying still mentally, so of course I should do it more, but it's ironically why I don't. BUT, since I have anxiety and am an #empath so I feel my emotions to a greater degree than most people, I did train myself to use my breath as a tool for calming down. Once, when I was in a particularly uncomfortable hip stretch in a class, the teacher told us to send our breath to the spot that's giving us difficulty and it'll help. Honestly, at first I thought she was full of shit and crazy new-agey. But then I tried it, and I found that it seriously worked! So I started using this technique when I was at work. I was in a very difficult work situation for several years (I taught MS English), and my admins would constantly throw things at me that made me furious and want to quit. So i started using this technique when dealing with them or preparing for a meeting with them. I would repeat over in my head, "Send your breath to your heart." And little by little it would calm me enough to not tell my bosses to go fuck themselves. 😊 So this is kinda my version of meditating in a way. Now I just use it when I'm stressing or worrying or overthinking something and driving myself crazy. 😊

***i love this pose, i did it last year in one of the challenges as yogi's choice. Not gifted in there to hook my foot so i did a variation 😜, and added a tiptoe for a change.πŸ’ͺπŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»
***Meditation...i've trying to add that to my routine but i always fail.πŸ˜”I even purchased an App for that but the only thing that worked was the sleep meditation. So for now, it's just counting 1- 10, while deeply inhaling and exhaling is all i could do when I'm upset or angry, until the negative feelings ebbed away. Welcome to the second round of our β€œYoga For Mental Health Awareness” challenge!

Last time we gave you an open book. This time we've set poses so you can instead learn to hear your body.

For Day 18 we are bringing you "Spear Pose". This is a kind of low lunge with foot hooked in any way possible to the torso. Women have an advantage here in the form of boobs as shown by my pose πŸ˜‚ but *ideally* the foot hooks just above the hip.

A modification would be to hold the foot as near to the torso as you can comfortably and keep hold of the foot with your hand. .

HOW DOES IT FEEL? Personally I love this kind of stretch and challenge. In intense pose for the legs in particular.

Friday...first time since the kids got out of school for summer break that I have doubled dipped yoga classes! Did a 90 minute Dharma yoga class and a 60 minute Ashtanga based class. I could tell I've been out of my routine..but I also could tell how much my body misses it. So thankful for the wonderful teachers that always help me get deeper into my practice, both mentally and physically...@jenhyoga and @artissmithyoga...always honored, always learning, always grateful. I'm headed in the right direction getting my practice back to it's regular routine. I adore progress photos. When we are on a journey, it is easy to see how far we have left to go and we often forget how far we have come, how much progress we have made. The photo on the left is from one of my first yoga challenges, back in June 2016. I remember gritting my teeth, stuggling to get into this terrible modified spear pose, telling my husband to get the picture before I fell out of it. Now, I can easily do the modification with better form and I can do a full spear pose, although it is still difficult to balance for very long. A sign that there is still progress to be made. I'll always be learning and growing.
