If you told me 10 years ago that I would be a singer, that I would be an example for my people all around the world, I would have laughed at you. Although I knew deep down inside that I was destined for this, I started believing all the naysayers. I seen others that I started my musical journey with, slowly falling out the scene. And because of those that doubted me, I started to believe that maybe I wasn't meant for this neither.
But one thing about the old me that I still absolutely love and keep to this day, I love disappointing those who want me to fail. When they said I couldn't, I did. When they said I won't, I did again. And when they said that I'd fail, I won. It was an awesome feeling making them all believers. But this is where I learned to stay grounded.
One day, my father and I went to pick up my sister from her college classes (I was suspended). And my father, he would always come early and pass out our church pamflets to those walking around the school. One day this man threw the pamflet back and made some rude comments to my dad. Long story short, I jumped out the car, laid him out and my dad jumped to his aid, covering him on the ground. I stood there lost like, "Yo, you gone let this dude disrespect you? Not w me here!" My dad said (in Samoan of course), "Just cause someone feels one way about you doesn't mean you share the same emotion. They dont know the information you hold or what you're capable of. Stay loyal to your purpose, everything else will fall in place." After so long, I've been blessed to still tour and share my music w the world. Even been introduced to the fitness world. With hard work and persistence, I've lost a little over 100 lbs. And now, their question is how do I do it. I tell em.
I believe I have valuable information. Hell, we all do. But even knowing it, it's what we do with it that will make us or break us. Be that person that no one thinks you can be, prove em wrong! But stay grounded, stay humble. Most importantly, stay grinding.
