Vermont Spartan recap...
Ran the 13ish miles and completed the 30+ obstacles. The weather was actually almost too hot, well for me. I didn’t run much. It was more of a fast walk and steady jog. The good... I powered up the hills quick, crush all the obstacles minus one. My grip was excellent, strength in the carries was spot one, my upper body didn’t suffer at all. Nutrition and fuel was great. I finished crushing all the obstacles packed in at the end. Always feels good to nail the spear. After I finished felt like I gave it my all but felt strong and recovered quick. The bad .... my ankle still hurts makes running hard and technical running impossible and my IT bands were so tight it caused some other issues. Bummed I missed the Tarzan swing bell wide left 🤦♂️ but 30 burpees isn’t bad.
Despite breaking my ankle and having surgery I managed to finish in 5:04 hrs surprisingly!! ——————————————
I spent the reminder of the afternoon with Katie’s Mom, Carol, and Abby. We cheered on Katie as she took things to the next level and took on her first Ultra at Killington!! I have ran Ultras and fully understand this incredible accomplishment. It’s a struggle in the body, mind, and sole. Katie completed her first Ultra and I couldn’t be prouder of her. Things get much tougher after 30+miles, in the dark, and battling the cut off times. Katie’s finish was remarked! She never gave in dispute strolling in the dark, her body screaming, burpees to do, and starring at the finish line and considered about time running out. It was a true display of grit, strength and heart. In true Katie fashion also made new friends along the way, made us all laugh, and looked beautiful doing it.
Watching her race and finish like she did remembered me of something I started to loss since my injury...how much I love OCR.
