Be praying for Southern California!! We can see smoke from one of the fires near us. It’s about 30-40 minutes from our house. We have some friends who are evacuating tonight. Crazy!! I’ve been videoing our house and all its contents for insurance purposes (many San Diegans know this drill all too well). I’ve been figuring out what to grab if we have to grab and go. Right now we’re totally safe and ready to take in friends who need to evacuate or need a place not consumed with smoke and ash. I did go to the store early this morning to stock up on some food and bottled water...just in case. We’ve lost power before when fires come through.
Every few years fires come close to where we live. It’s a constant reminder of what is most important. When we evacuate, getting our family out of harms way is the most important goal. If we have time, then we grab only what we can’t replace: photos, family videos, computers, and hard drives (with family photos and videos). We pack for a few nights and let the kids grab their favorite lovies.
10 years ago it was a complete miracle that our house wasn’t consumed. The fire was coming over the hill behind us and then the winds died down and the fire was contained.
This is always such a great reminder of what is most important. So, I’m praying for safety of all people in harms way and who have already been affected by these crazy fires.
Praying for safety overnight and for winds to calm. That’s always the scariest time. I am usually up every few hours checking the fire map online. So, I’m also praying for God to calm my heart. It doesn’t help that all our phones keep getting emergency alerts. We do have reverse 911 where we get a phone call to notify us if we are being evacuated. But, silly me, I don’t trust it.
Talk about a lesson in perspective. Life is a gift. Stuff is fun, but can be replaced. AND boy, oh boy, do we love our fire fighters!!! Please add them to your prayers. 💕
Oh, what I didn’t mention was that yesterday we had a little earthquake here. Ha!! Life in San Diego!! Gotta love it!! #dailyclovers #wildfires #sandiegolife #sandiegofires #southerncalifornialiving #prayingforsafety #perspective #lilacfire
