The number of women violated is made more impactful bc they are women we know. They're our friends, sisters, colleagues, bosses, moms, aunts, neighbors, grandmothers and daughters.
They are the women sitting across the aisle on the bus or subway. And for each and everyone of them there is a perpetrator.
A father, uncle, grandfather, boss, neighbor, brother, stranger or friend.
And there is most likely those, who knew or were told who looked away in fear of whatever the cost was for holding accountable the predator.
So it isn't a matter of awareness. Plenty people are aware. It's a matter of silence. A silence that is finally being broken by the brave and the courageous.
