Just over a week ago I started using this sonic cleansing brush from Darphin every evening as part of my usual skincare routine. The only tool of this type I've used before is the Luna Play by Foreo which is very different from this. Darphin's Cleansing & Massaging Expert comes with two attachments; a traditional looking bristle brush head and a metal massaging head. The idea is that you use the brush attachment with a cleanser for one minute to deep cleanse and then use the massage attachment with your moisturiser for one minute. You can do this up to twice a day and it claims to be suitable for all skin types, even sensitive and reactive (I asked a Darphin advisor since my skin is very reactive and prone to redness). Taking both steps every day is supposed to replicate the feel and result of having a facial.
Well, the first time I used this it hurt. I wasn't using any pressure and I followed the instructions, gliding it over my face one half at a time (it switches off after 30 seconds so that you can time it for each half of your face). I followed with the massage head which also hurt. Now i don't know if I have an unusually bumpy or bony forehead and chin but using this was so painful over those areas.
After the 2 minute routine my face was red, hot, burning and irritated 😡
Given that I've never used this kind of brush before, I was expecting an adjustment period so I tried not to pre-judge and persevered the next day. Still painful but possibly slightly less redness than day 1.
Every day since then the discomfort has been slightly reduced though, in all honesty, it's still not a pleasurable experience 😬
However, what I can say with certainty is that my skin has felt softer and smoother since day 1 and the overall texture is definitely improved.
I found it best to use this as part of my second cleanse as it doesn't remove makeup and just seemed to move it around (which made me worry that i was pushing the makeup deeper into my pores)
I will continue using it but perhaps every other day. I do love Darphin skincare and use their Intral Redness Reducing line regularly so I have faith that persevering through the discomfort will reap rewards 🤞🏻
