This year I've hardly done any strength training, at all, I've been running everyday and I cycle sometimes. But as for strength training, nothing. Maybe the odd workout once a week every few weeks but nothing regular enough to make a difference.
But today, that's changing! I've always wanted to be able to do chin ups, and last year I got to a point where I could do 3 in a row, which is impressive, but I'm making it my goal to get to 10 in a row before my 26th birthday, which is 8 or so months away.
For the first time in my life I'm not feeling very strong, which is odd, and for an Exercise Scientist to say that people must think I'm a joke, but hey, life gets in the way, our minds work against us and sometimes we just need a break. I'm using this as an opportunity to know what it feels like to build strength from a beginners perspective, which will help me greatly as an Exercise Scientist. I've never been weak, but right now I am, I'll know what it's like to build strength from nothing, how hard it is, how much it hurts, and I think that's going to give me a pretty big advantage when I'm helping people get fit and strong.
