We recently moved into our new home, a farmhouse with plenty of porch space for lazy dreaming. Our house is pushing a century, and was fully restored several years ago. After talking with my neighbor, I learned that the original house, an old Victorian beauty, had been taken down to its foundations and rebuilt from the ground up. Still, despite new walls and electric, the original support of our home remains the same...saw cut logs and piles of rocks carefully stacked one hundred years earlier. Sure, additional foundational supports have been added over the years, and are helping distribute the weight, but the original soul of our home remains. When I crawl down in our basement, I can see those mighty trees split in half, stoically holding the weight of generations. I'm reminded that as a Christian, my foundation is the Holy Spirit within me. I can look back at all the seasons of my life so far and see that at times I've been nothing more than a crumbling house, so stripped of strength and weather beaten by life's storms. I've been taken down to my foundation and rebuilt over and over.... It is inevitable that our circumstances and appearance will change over time, but as Christians the very heart of us remains the same, the firm foundation of Christ. "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have-Jesus Christ"
1 Corinthians 3:11 .
