Most of you may recognise this plane wreck from the song gerua . SRK and Kajol declaring their love arms spread in the middle of nowhere . When I first saw the song I though it was all CGI . Nothing like this can really exist .right? But I was wrong .You really need to experience Iceland to believe it . .
.
Anyways a little TMI ....
in 1973 a US Navy DC plane ran out of fuel and crashed on the black sand beach of #solheimasandur , in the south coast of Iceland . Fortunately, everybody survived . Since the wreck is so remote and secluded nobody really bothered clearing it . Today it lies alone on the black sand beach, like a set from a science fiction movie.

There is no road or clear track to reach the wrech but the hike is totally worth the adventure.#guidetoiceland

I leave the worry of where to go behind. I know where I’m going now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ Backstory: In order to get to this site it was a two hour drive from Reykjavik and a 45+ min hike to the plane. The black sand landscape was barren and the entire area desolate. Very post-apocalyptic like. It felt like we were the only people around for hundreds of miles. Such an interesting feeling and an experience that was so different from anything I’ve felt before. The US military plane made an emergency landing on the beach in 1973, fortunately everyone survived. The military salvaged all the useful parts and left the rest. Also, when signs tell you not to climb something, do it anyway for the gram. 😂 📸: @mrvictoramos

There’s a U.S. Navy DC-3 plane crash site that is fairly easy to get on to the black sand beach at Sólheimasandur, in the South Coast of Iceland. (Don’t worry! Everyone survived!) Although the weather wasn’t cooperating with us (we were pretty miserable tbh), it is quite the sight to see for any aviation nerds out there. It’s also a photography dream. It looks like a scene straight out of a movie! #dc3planewreckage #Iceland #SouthCoast #solheimasandur

Ever been somewhere, where you literally feel like you are on another planet? yeah..that basically describes this place. November 1973, a US Navy plane was forced to crash land. All the crew survived, but the wreckage remains. #solheimasandur #planewreck #iceland #icelandplanewreck #bucketlist #travel #worldtraveler #solheimasandurplanewreck #vik #instatravel #picoftheday #history
