As an ambassador of my small town of #Rishikesh here is a wonderful glimpse I wish to share.
Each evening at sunset the locals in my town gather at the banks, called #Ghats, of the Holy #Ganges, personified as a Goddess, a deity, giver of life and abundance. The locals seek her blessings and witness a prayer ceremony called, #Aarti a lamp/fire offering accompanied by hymns.
Later, the blessings from the prayer in the form of sweet, called #prasad and the light of the lamp is distributed across the city. The priests and prayer service offering folk take these through each street, to shops in the town and houses too, each evening. In a way, so as to bless the whole town with the fruits of what they have received.
The #spirituality that my town is known for, across the world, got lost somewhere in the midst of time. However, the locals seemed to have revived a piece of the puzzle by coming together as a community to protect the river, and show solidarity in each other as residents of Rishikesh, like here on this rainy evening.
