. Intellectual Disability is a Neurodevelopmental Disorder; a group of conditions with onset in the developmental period that produce impairments of social, personal, academic, or occupational function. These four conditions fall under the umbrella term; Adaptive Functioning. The four levels of severity (according to experts) are defined on the basis of Adaptive Functioning in three primary domains: conceptual, social, and practical. These definitions reflect a major shift in focus away from IQ scores and more towards needed supports. This shift emphasizes the resources and strategies necessary to promote the overall adjustment and well-being of a person with intellectual Disability. #ID#intellectual#intelligence#psychology#psychologist#psychological#mentalhealth#mentalhealthawareness#health#social#conceptual#practical#ASD#autism#pragmatic#socialwork
Lebanese Palestinian eight year old Baraa Adham Khadier, who has intellectual disability and needs the support of a special school. Her father simply wants her to have the same opportunities as other children. "My hope is that my daughter gets an education and becomes like the rest of the children. For me, I am living, but for her there is no school." In many parts of the world, where mental health services are limited, people who require mental and pyschosocial support receive the same treatment.
#InMyWorld is a campaign that seeks to expose the challenges faced by people living with mental health issues and give them the chance to be seen, heard and valued. This first phase of the project has been created in collaboration with Handicap International @handicap_uk
I love being outside, it has always been my happy place. While in Halifax last week I was able to spend an entire day by myself exploring downtown and wandering around the #halifaxpublicgardens I came back to work today feeling refreshed and energized. It was such a lovely break that was well needed. #selfcare#calm#socialwork 🌲
it's amazing how every single practice my hips feel SOOO different. I realized that I hold ALOT of energy in my hip/lower back area. How do I know? because when I'm stressed those are the FIRST areas that begin to bring me pain. // part of my work is releasing hip energy w/ hip openers, deep bends etc.. not to be bendy... but to be free ✨✨
